After an unprecedented start to its 2017 season, ninth-ranked Colorado lacrosse kept its unbeaten streak alive as it downed UC Davis 18-5 Sunday at Kittredge Field to open Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play.

Four Buffs anchored the Colorado offense with hat tricks, led by senior attackers Johnna Fusco (four goals) and Katie Macley (three), and junior attackers Carly Cox (four) and Darby Kiernan (three).

Throughout the entire match, Colorado was hot on the offensive trail as seven Buffs shared the scoring responsibility and netted 13 goals in the second half.

"I think the second half was stronger for us," CU head coach Ann Elliott said. "The girls came out with more of a sense of urgency across the board, playing together, and we were able to get some better opportunities."

Throughout much of the first half, the Buffs (4-0 overall, 1-0 MPSF) stayed true on defense while attacking hard on the other end of the field. Early on, the Buffs gained a 3-0 edge before the Aggies (1-3, 0-2) were able to respond. Over the remainder of the half, the Aggies closed the gap to 5-3 before the break.

The Buffs reverted back to old habits as they made quick work of the second half, scoring six goals in the first seven minutes. They didn't slow down much after that, and their defense certainly didn't help the Aggies any more.

As the second half wore on, the Buffs relentlessly defended their goal and hardly let the Aggies gain any traction — not until after gaining a 15-3 edge. By the time the final horn sounded, they had only let senior goalie Paige Soenksen weather 11 shot attempts from the Aggies.

"We needed to turn over and start playing hard all across the field, and defensively we just take pride in working hard, working together and making plays," junior defender Kelsie Garrison said.

The Buffs improved their résumé and will likely maintain a top-10 spot in the Inside Lacrosse Poll.. They return to their home field Friday to host No. 15 Denver at 3 p.m.
