Colorado's tennis team opened the 2016-17 season by winning all six of its doubles matches at the CU Invitational at CU's South Campus Tennis Complex. The Buffaloes are joined in the four-day tournament by competitors from Arkansas, Colorado State, Georgetown and New Mexico.
The format of Thursday's doubles action was three rounds of pre-determined matchups. The Buffs rolled through the first round as Chloe Hule and Nuria Ormeño Ruiz blew past Celine Voss and Caroline Henderson from CSU, 6-0 and Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Kyra Wojcik swept Solene Crawley and Sandra Keta (CSU), 6-0.
The second round, again against pairs from Colorado State, the results were similar. Louise Ronaldson made her CU debut with Ormeño Ruiz as the pair downed Madison Porter and Riley Reeves 6-1. Andrinopoulos and Hule defeated Alyssa Grijalva and Emily Kolbow 6-3.
The third round was a little tighter as the Buffs faced their stiffest competition of the day. Andrinopoulos and Ormeño Ruiz still paired for a quick 6-1 win over Madeline Foley and Maggie Psyhogeos (Georgetown). However, Ronaldson and Wojcik fell behind 3-0 in their doubles match to CSU's Grijalva and Kolbow before rallying to win six straight games for a 6-3, come-from-behind victory.
Going 6-0 on the day is great. You couldn't really ask for anything better." CU coach Nicole Kenneally said. "I like where we are (right now) and we're ahead of where we were last Wednesday (when practice started)."
