The Buffs' Abrianna Torres is currently third in the heptathlon with 3,383 points after the first day of competition at the 2016 Pac-12 Track and Field Championships in Seattle,

Torres started the day running 14.73 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, which was ninth overall. In the next event, the high jump, Torres had the third best jump in the field after clearing a personal best 5 feet, 10 inches. The mark was the fourth best jump ever by a CU heptathlete, and is the best jump by a Buff since 1983 when Annette Tannander cleared 5-11 at the Big Eight Championships in Stillwater, Okla.

The shot put has always been a strong event for Torres, and she did not disappoint on Saturday, finishing first with a toss of 42-10.75 which came on her third throw of the day. Her mark was over two feet further than the runner-up, Kendall Gustafson (UCLA), who earned a mark of 40-7.

"I'm happy with how today worked out," Torres said. "The hurdles weren't great, but the high jump was pretty exciting and gave me a lot of energy. I knew that I had that [high] jump in me and I feel like I have more height in me."

Torres ended in the day clocking in at 25.74 in the 200 (10th overall). Her first day total puts her 79 points ahead of where she was last year at the end of the first day. Southern California's Amalie Iuel leads the competition with 3,709 points, while Washington State's Liz Harper is second with 3,495 points.

Colorado's Maja Wichhart-Donzo also had a good day and is currently eighth with 3,051 points.

The men are also in good position after the first day of the decathlon with Isaiah Oliver in sixth and Andrew Ghizzone 10th.

Oliver, who is competing in just the second decathlon of his collegiate career, recorded a first day score of 3,791 points. He ran the seventh fastest 100 time in CU decathlon history, finishing third in 11.05.

Oliver cleared a season-high 6-0.75 in the high jump for seventh. His final event of the night was the 400, which is where he made his biggest impact on the CU record book, cruising to the second fastest decathlon time at 48.28.
