Later Gator: Legacy's Kasa changes commitment to Colorado

The Colorado football program was in dire need of some good news on the recruiting trail and it finally arrived in a big way Sunday when two highly recruited defensive linemen decided to join coach Dan Hawkins’ team.

The day began with a jolt when news started circulating that the best prep player in the state of Colorado last fall was de-committing from the Florida Gators and pledging to become a Buff.

Legacy High School defensive end Nick Kasa had committed to Florida in November well before the Gators won the national championship, but he continued to talk with Hawkins and ultimately decided Boulder is where his heart is, according to Legacy High School coach Wayne Voorhees.

Voorhees said Kasa called Florida coach Urban Meyer on Sunday morning to tell him the news and followed that call with one to Hawkins informing him he will be a Buff. Kasa then turned his attention to a day on the ski slopes and did not return phone calls and text messages Sunday night.

“He actually told me about it at the Army All-America game,” Voorhees said. “He said, ‘You will probably be surprised by this but I’m going to go to Colorado.’ He wanted to wait until after the national championship game to call coach Meyer because he didn’t think it would be fair to be a distraction to him.”

Kasa played in the Army All-America game a week ago in San Antonio and opened some eyes during the week of practices and drills by consistently proving to be tough to block. Scout.com ranks Kasa as a five-star player and the fourth-best defensive lineman in the nation. Rivals.com ranks him a four-star player.

Kasa’s commitment to CU builds on Hawkins’ in-state recruiting success and continues his streak of landing the top player in the state in three consecutive years. Kasa joins offensive lineman Ryan Miller (2007) and linebacker Jon Major (2008) as top in-state prospects to choose to become Buffs.

Voorhees said another reason Kasa changed his mind was the very real possibility that he could play as a true freshman in Boulder. He might have had to redshirt in Florida and could have been waiting for significant playing time with the Gators for several years.

By Sunday evening, another prospect was ready to make his decision and he chose to send out text messages to reporters announcing he would be a Buff.

Edward Nuckols, a three-star defensive tackle from Mission Hills High School in San Marcos, Calif., chose Colorado over Arizona and much of the rest of the Pac-10 Conference. Nuckols is 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds and is ranked among the top 35 defensive tackles in the nation by both major recruiting services.

He has the potential to be the sort of run-stuffing, block-eating, man in the middle any good defense needs. He visited Colorado in October and was impressed with the school and the beauty of the campus and its surroundings.

“It was a tough choice,” Nuckols told Rivals.com about his decision between CU and Arizona. “Both schools have a wonderful campus, both teams are coming up in their conferences and both are bringing in top-notch recruits.

“It came down to Boulder being a place I can see myself living in for the next four to five years.”

The news of Kasa’s and Nuckols’ decisions came in the nick of time for some anxious followers of the CU program, who have been concerned for several months now about the slow pace of recruiting. Even with their commitments, the 2009 class is only half filled with less than a month remaining before national signing day (Feb. 4).

Hawkins said in December that he planned to sign 20-22 players in this class, meaning he still has at least nine pledges to come and maybe 11 more. But Sunday’s commitments are a big help for the CU defensive line, an area coaches have made a priority for the 2009 class. CU is expected to sign four or five defensive linemen in the class.

Nuckols and Kasa join Nate Bonsu, a defensive tackle from Allen, Texas, as the three defensive line commitments. Nosa Eguae, a defensive end from Texas, was committed to the Buffs throughout much of the fall, but he recently told Rivals.com the Buffs were no longer an option.

Wide receiver, offensive line and defensive backs are the other areas expected to claim most of the scholarships in this cycle.

The program hosted just one official visitor over the weekend. Nathan Fellner, a safety from Fresno, Calif., told Scout.com he was impressed with the program and campus, but he remains committed to Washington, where he will visit next weekend.

Hawkins will host one of the largest groups of official visitors in this recruiting cycle next weekend with between 10 and 15 prospects expected on campus.

Notable

Diante Jackson, an explosive wide receiver from Walnut Creek, Calif., committed to CU several weeks ago, but is now said to be deciding between the Buffs and Oregon. Jackson has not been quoted on the topic so he remains on our list of Colorado commitments for the time being.

Awesome!! In the long run I predict this will be great for Nick and CU. Florida is a football machine and I bet pretty easy to get lost in over the course of 4-5 years. He will be a stud at CU and will be yet another great weapon in the team Hawkins is building. I love the fact were keeping the best recruits in state (finally, no thanks to Barnett) and building some pride and tradition locally.

Now let follow that up with a couple more that are out there. Any word on the rumor Diante is wavering again?

The best player in the State (again)
Quite an amazing turnaround from what was a bleak week for the Buff Nation ...

This is huge for the program, The number one reason for him changing his mind is simply his relationship with Coach Hawkins. This will go along way towards building a great program! As for Teo and Harris, Teo is not coming to Boulder, he wants to go on a mission before he enrolls in school is what I have heard. Cliff Harris probably wont qualify for any school. Lets go after Terdema Usserey from Dallas.

I don't think anyone can really knock Hawkins and staff when it comes to recruiting. We haven't even played well yet and they are still bringing in national talent. Way to go guys! Welcome Nick!

If the Buffs can land a couple more defensive standouts - Cliff Harris and maybe Michael Clay - this would already be an awsome class simply based on our needs. I don't care what the rankings say!

Hey Kasa was a Buff before he wasn't.

It's in the blood.

Hawk, these are like apetizers eh?

Hey, the buffs had a crap season. You took it like a man. (not so sure some of your coaches did).

You did your annual rant. 10 wins, no excuses.

Ralphywagondriver. You choklahomaians could have used some real defensive talent.

I heard that Urban sent Hawk a thank you note for the tips he offered up on playing the wagondriverlosers.

Heard it was simply "hit em in the mouth and they go into stoops timid mode and of course lose." I recall that first DB hit on that girly-man reciever.

When the new Rivals100 list is released on Tuesday, don't be surprised if Kasa is on it. He turned heads while out in San Antonio for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

During 11-on-11 work in practices leading up to the prestigious all-star game, Kasa was routinely in the backfield reeking havoc. He recorded countless tackles for a loss, forced fumbles and sacks.

And in the game, on national television, Kasa recorded two quarterback hurries.

"Kasa is so fast. His first step is like Allen Iverson's," commented San Antonio (Texas) Warren defensive tackle Calvin Howell, one of his West teammates. "He is so smooth with his game."

Kasa's performance in the Alamo City gave him a shot of confidence, as the 6-foot-7, 245-pounder gets ready to play at the college level.

"I was going against guys that are twice the size as the guys I was going against here [in Colorado]," he explained. "I was a little bit concerned just because I was a lot skinnier than a lot of the defensive linemen there. I was kind of worried how my weight would affect me. But it did end up really good; I was a lot quicker than a lot of the guys. So it worked out pretty well for me."

Nolan - the people that are saying that Jackson will go back to Oregon on his commit are the same people who broke the story on Kasa and Nuckols. You can believe them or not - no commit is "official" until February 4th.

BTW, exactly what represents a "fake" website?

You are free to ignore the website, just as we are free to ignore your posts.

it was just last week that folks on this board were pissed that CU's class was ranked in the 60's. We are now ranked in the 40's, with over 10 commits left to get it is almost guaranteed we will be in the 30's (worst case).. Not bad after the season we had!

Montana- I am not questioning you, but I thought you said it was the Oregon message board that said Jackson was going to switch? Those are the same people that broke the story about Nuckols and Kasa coming to CU?

Posted by Sundayhop on January 12, 2009 at 8:09 a.m. (Suggest removal)

That's a gutsy move for a kid to decommit from the national champions. A week after they won the big game, Tebow just announced he was coming back and they are next years favorites to repeat too. Maybe it was the fact that they could return all 11 defensive players for the gators.

shoulder -
Adam at BuffStampede.com/Rivals.com is the guy who first heard from Kasa's Broomfield coach, and the guy who first heard from Nuckols - he certainly seems to know his stuff. He is also one of those reporting about the switch of Diante Jackson back to Oregon, and they are basing these reports off of conversations from those who should know (family, coaches).

Believe me, I hope that Jackson sticks with the Buffs. If you look at his comments about CU, the team (especially his host, Scotty McKnight), and the coaches, you get the feeling he really wants to be a Buff. However, there are other factors to consider when you are an 18 year old making a college choice.

We'll just have to leave Diante and his family to make their choice based upon what they feel is best for this young man. I hope that that means wearing "black and gold", as he said on January 1st.

Go Buffs!

Posted by shoulder2shoulder on January 12, 2009 at 8:18 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Thanks Montana- The comment that Jackson made about McKnight being like a brother always stuck with me. I hope the parents let him go where he really feels will be best..I could see if it was a juco like k-state but CU and Oregon both have good academics so that can't be an issue. Maybe something fishy is going on??

Yep,

He should be a four year starter at CU. He would have been a bench warmer at Florida for at least two years.

Hopefully Hawk and the other coaches are working the "hearts and minds" of Diante's family. Ultimately they are the ones who will help him make up his mind. His HS coaches might have an agenda of their own, but his family should want what is best for him. If he comes to CU he will be a star who will get national TV exposure multiple times every year he is here. Much more than Oregon (on a national level).

I won't be concerned with his "official" commitment until Feb. 4th. He was once a Duck and then took time to reconsider to be a Buff and if he is still considering Oregon then he needs more time. We should all just be patient. We will get the guys who want to be Buffs.

Huge win! So great to see Colorado athletes choosing CU. It says so much about everything CU offers (education, campus, peer group) and DH's program. Basically, guys like Kasa can go anywhere. And when it comes time to make the decision, they decide they want to stay in the great state of Colorado, and they want to play for Dan Hawkins.

Nuckol's is a big win too. U of A recruits well in SoCal, and so many players friends go to school there.

PS>Regarding the recruit visits this weekend, it wont hurt that its is supposed to be beautiful weather in Boulder (60 degrees)

After little Cody graduates, maybe he can be daddys offensive coordinator for the CreamBuffs. Interrelated relations.....

SUSIE LEE DONE FELL IN LOVE,
SHE PLANNED TO MARRY JOE.
SHE WAS SO HAPPY 'BOUT IT ALL,
SHE TOLD HER PAPPY SO.

PAPPY TOLD HER, SUSIE GAL,
YOU'LL HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER.
I'D JUST AS SOON YO' MA DON'T KNOW,
BUT JOE IS YO' HALF BROTHER.

SO SUSIE PUT ASIDE HER JOE
AND PLANNED TO MARRY WILL.
BUT AFTER TELLING PAPPY THIS,
HE SAID, 'THERE'S TROUBLE STILL.'

YOU CAN'T MARRY WILL, MY GAL,
AND PLEASE DON'T TELL YO' MOTHER.
BUT WILL AND JOE, AND SEVERAL MO'
I KNOW IS YO' HALF BROTHER.

BUT MAMA KNEW AND SAID, MY CHILD
JUST DO WHAT MAKES YO' HAPPY.
MARRY WILL OR MARRY JOE;
YOU AIN'T NO KIN TO PAPPY.

Brings a tear to yo eye, don't it?

Ralphynepa you get one more year reprieve as you get to skip Hawk again.

Luvda your luck has run out.

Heard that coaches around the country are drawing straws to get on the Stoopercheaterloser choklahoma schedule. Nice.

Interesting article and quotes from the Rocky. Seems like uprooting the family to Florida became an issue. He has a brother at CSU and leaving their community isn't something they didn't want to do. Just my opinion, but it takes a pretty mature person to take into consideration his families needs along with his own. Guys like Kasa can become part of the foundation of a program.

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news...

"I just think that this is the best fit for me and my career. I was just thinking, 'We used to live in Florida,' and my dream was to go there. I don't know why it took me so long to realize this."

Since then, Voorhees said, Kasa reconsidered several factors, including the distance to Gainesville, Fla.

Voorhees reiterated that Kasa's parents were prepared to relocate to Florida even though they have another son who attends Colorado State.

"They want what's best for him and were excited about Florida," Voorhees said. "But they're pretty embedded here. . . . (CU) is a good fit for everybody."

Interesting info regarding Diente Jackson

Jackson said in December he liked CU but had work to do to convince his mother and grandmother it is where he should attend college.

http://www.reporterherald.com/Sports-...

(The guy wants to attend CU. Hawk should be able to overcome this. CU is a fine academic institution and the party school dayz at CU have calmed down enormously.)

Yup Buffs are at 49 with 11 commits based on total points. But if you look at average stars they would be 28th . And when they get 11 more recruits and they will be good ones, they will jump up to the Texas range.

And what is your loserluv gonna do with a 10 ranking? ...........lets guess......no.....no
oh yea, lose a bowlgame.

I was there at Memorial at the end of the year and the last minute desperation after the field goal aside, I thought the O carried their weight nicely.

When Cody came in at the half of the Cyclone game the O sparkled.

I will say that if Speedy had been there the whole season we would have been in a bowl. The A&M game is the one where we really stunk it up and should have won.

That incident you referenced when Don Deluzio got clipped by a drunk driver during spring break in San Padre Island, I believe, or the Bahamas. The accident also completely ruined the career of the highly touted Curt Koch, DE, who, going into his senior season was supposed to be a top 5 NFL pick until the accident. I think Koch ended up going to the Redskins in round 3 or 4 and never played much or had much of a career in the NFL.

sfbuff: i think that quote refers to Michael Clay, (not Fellner) an LB, choosing between Buffs and Ducks. If he's goes Duck I hope he doesn't sway Diante Jackson to join him. Need the offensive line healthy.

Need an offensive game plan that actually is a game plan that provides offense.
Need the D-line to have a "sackarama" year
Need a field goal kicker who can kick field goals regardless of the shoes
Need special teams play that are actually special and not a weekly riddle.

Other than the above, lets roll.

Felinis class has some glaring weaknesses.
Lots a three stars, which aint bad, but 2 of em are fullbacks who are lost in their offense, three of em are way undersized O linemen. the best O lineman they have might be the 2 star kid from ND who is a ton with quick feet.
The highlights are a 4 star DE with the measureables and a couple of big fast JC receivers. We know they wont flunk out at NE but can they remember which route they are supposed to run?
Last of course is their 5 star qb who they hope is the second coming of Vince Young ...... who doesnt have all that much passing history and probably wont run the option as well as Crouch.

I hear that the wagondrivers are gonna beat the gators by 14 and score 40 points. (Your prediction)

Oh sorry corncobs 6 and 7 as you count the spring game as a win

...Look for the entire 2009 recruiting class to redshirt, just like the 2008 class did...

2008 class had 28 recruits ranked 30th..a one year redshirt is not enough time to get the grades in order

Look for a return to the last 10 years of losing creamcorn football and being pounded by the Buffs.

I agree that Nepa Dr. Talli TomHusker is the same person and I’ll also point out that this person is clinically insane. I’m not joking or tying to be funny. This person lives to post his hate on a Buff’s website. I'll also assume he posts on Missouri, KSU, KU websites. Not only do I think he is unemployed, but I think this is what he dedicates his entire life to. Just look at the velocity of his daily posts and the 7 days a week relentlessness. As I fully believe this person is crazy, it would not surprise me in the least if Nepa is the person that threatened to kill a Nebraska coach last season. When someone is clearly as frighteningly obsessed as Nepa, you can't trust them to behave life a rational human being. This person is deeply disturbed.

Dude, whom ever you are, take a few days off and reevaluate your life. Is posting on this site really what you want dedicate your life to?

I usually insult NepaDrTom, but this person is so pathetic and scary that his unyielding postings are enough to convict himself on flagrant insanity. Get a grip Bro!

There are still talks of haveing Cody Green play WR, if thats the case we would be lower rated then 2 of the wr CU will get this class!

from ralphy report

Fun Fact For the Day
Dave Plati of the Sports Information Office released his New Year's Plait-'Tudes yesterday with facts about last year and some commentary. There have been different degrees of spinning the youth that CU has played with over the last two years but it is hard to spin this size a number:

A total of 95 freshmen (true or redshirt) started games for Colorado in 2007 and 2008, nearly double any previous two-year total (partly due to CU losing 121 games due to injury, 110 by players who figured into the two-deep). When playing the nation’s seventh toughest schedule as determined by Sagarin computer rankings.

No excuses next year but 95 freshman is pretty eye popping and a reason for hope in the upcoming years

Cornbred - Thank you for posting a 9 day old article. That's breaking news. Plus, nice job in condensing it so that the entire point of the article has been deleted. You must have learned some fine research and writing skills at Nebraska.

Posted by Cornbred on January 13, 2009 at 6:18 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Hey,

This is only part of the article. I hope recruits parents don’t read the newspaper! With a subtitle of Hall of Shame, who would want to trust their child with Jail University? Oh I forgot they have great academic standards for their athletes. Does Lynn Katoa ring a bell?

Posted by Cornbred on January 13, 2009 at 6:26 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Doesn't Hawkins run the program? I guess he doesn't have what it takes to punish the boys himself! He puts them in groups an punish the group for what one has done. Great Parenting and coaching! I suppose he puts his assistants and coordinators in groups and fires all of them if one screws up?

Hawkins is trying to play good cop with a combination of visible discipline, education and a large dose of peer pressure with his formation of the nine-man teams.

Athletic director Mike Bohn and head coach Dan Hawkins have had enough. Bohn said he will soon hire what he calls a director of "student-athletes wellness" to help deal with the problem. Around a month ago, Hawkins established accountability teams. He held a player draft in which nine nine-man teams were formed. If one player violates an off-the-field rule, not only does he get punished, but so does his whole "team."

Posted by Cornbred on January 13, 2009 at 6:39 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Funny you say that. When one screws up you say, “oh their just college kids, being kids”. Oh, but now you say they are young men, when your recruiting them? You must be a child yourself. If you had children you would understand that they will always be your children, even when they are 50+. Trust me they are someone’s child!

Ward did not pull any punches when the news broke and he informed the Times Record News that OU’s conference worst 46% graduation rate was the main reasoning behind the switch.

Rivals just released their new Top250 rankings and guess who made the list????
Jack Harris --- he is now listed as a 4-star OT ranked #25 in the country. This brings us up to five 4-star recruits (out of 11 commits). They have not readjusted the team rankings yet but I am sure CU will be in the low 40's or high 30's by the weekend.

boulda - Harris has been overlooked in all of the Kasa frenzy. What this means is that Hawkins has not only landed the top recruit in CO for the past three seasons, but for the past two, he has gotten commitments from the top two players in the state (Givens and Major last year; Kasa and Harris this year).

Looking forward to a great weekend (several new commits!?!)

okay i will do it myself

offered but not committed and interest

Hawk better be having some "not known stuff" going on here.....

similar list but includes interest but no offer

The market is making me poor and lonely. It must be like being nepa.

5wins...
Was that a gay joke? Nice.
Why did you pick 23rd? I hope you were not subtracting 23 years from 2008 and thinking that equalled 1975. Welllllllll...you are a complete moron so it really would not be that suprising.

..In 1975, Boulder County Clerk Clela Rorex was the second in the United States to ever grant same-sex marriage licenses...

I looked it up. It was 4 couples. 2 from Oklamona and 2 from onyourbraska.

The headline was "Cream for a day, Have it your way-eitherway."

...several couples dressed in Scarlet and several dressed in crimson waited in line for two days to be the first to legalize their long standing illegal relationships. But as stated by the County Clerk, the issuance of these certificates would probably not withstand legal scrutiny due to interrelated issues prevelant in the areas they came from.....

Look it up nepa....you probably have the article framed on your wall....

Ayodeji Olatoye went from a 1 star and NR Safety on Scout to a 3 star and 100 rated Safety. Maybe Hawkins specialty is to find undervalued prospects (ie Stewart & Hansen). Nice to see Harris moved up as well.

Average rating scout 2.91
Average rating rivals 3.18
Average of taking highest ratings of all players 3.36
Average using the lowest rating (scout/rivals)2.73

Actually, nothing really new to report on the recruiting front other than the spikes in player rankings which have been reported.

For a diversion, you can read the new Dave Plati-tudes. There is some good stuff in there, including clarification on the "10 wins, no excuses" statement by coach Hawkins:

http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.db...

Should have more tonight. Looks like there is at least one more name to add to the visit list: Eddie Williams, a three-star guard (JC), who is a "soft verbal" for UCLA.

Stay tuned!

For those still on the fence on next year's potential, I give you this quote from last year's spring game summary from Scout:

"More so than any spring in recent — or even distant — memory, the Colorado offense is ahead of where the defense is, if Saturday’s scrimmage at Folsom Stadium is an indication. The Buffaloes offense racked up over 600 yards and scored six touchdowns in 109 plays. Inside, notes and quotes from the affair.

As usual, Saturday’s scrimmage was a good news/bad news practice. The good news is the new-look offense looked pretty good. Running exclusively out of the shotgun, the Buffs first, second and third teams had 635 yards (313 rushing/322 passing) Saturday."

For the full article go here:
http://colorado.scout.com/2/743893.html

Basically, with a healthy O-line (in the spring game) they did pretty well against the Defense. Anyone remember how that defense did this past season? Pretty well actually. This of course does not include the freshmen who didn't check in until the summer (on both sides of the ball) or Katoa for that matter. So the potential is pretty good. It wasn't just the 1st string that got production but also the second and third string Offense.

BuffTime - thanks for the article. Funny how dominant the offense was, and concern about the defensive side of the ball, considering how things turned out during the season.

I think a lot is going to come down to the QB situation and whether Hansen has improved his passing and is ready to lead.

bufftime.

I was at the game.

The part I remember most is that the first pass by cody was batted down....back to the future..

and this..... Both placekickers Jameson Davis and Aric Goodman were inconsistent Saturday. Both missed a PAT and at least one field goal, and both hit extra points and field goals.

again back to the future.

Based on Scout's eligibility table, Hawk should be targeting:

A FB (unless they are phasing FBs out of their offense).

A few TEs (already in the commit list)

OLs as usual

DLs and DEs of course

At least one LB (we have quality depth but next year we graduate 4)

Some Safeties and CBs too.

They might be looking for another LS either this class or next at the latest.

These are based on needs within the next year or 2 with depth and graduation. Of course that is just my take on it from looking at the eligibility pipeline.

BuffStampede.com is reporting that one-star DT prospect Adam Ayala cancelled his trip to Boulder this weekend. With the Buffs' DL commits this week, it's probably a smart move on his part. He is going to UTEP this weekend instead (other offers are from CSU and Louisiana Tech).

Maybe the coaches should check out LB Jonathan Davis from Georgia. He is likely to play safety in college.

http://colorado.rivals.com/viewprospe...

He was shafted by South Carolina. He had committed in November to a coach who left for LSU and then the coaches from SC told him they no longer had a scholarship for him.

He runs a 4.4 40 and is supposed to be a tackling machine.

I hear that the wagondrivers have several recruits wallllffffinng due to performance by the coach in critical situations. Hawk whipped the creamwagondrivers, had boise do it, showed WV how to do it and helped his good friend at Florida as well.

The hawk has stoopers #. The recruits know "the probation wagondrivers" get a pass this year from "Hawks ownership of Stoops" but they also no (for you nepa) that the following two years will be "circled losses on the wagondriver calendar" as the Buffs get back on with the pounding of the wagondrivers.

7 to 12 will be 3 stars or above.

I have insight... After all I predicted the Florida stomping of the creamdrivers of the wagon and of course "nepawhoamItoday" did not come close......

If you look at star rating on both of those goober ranking sites CU would be in the top 30 in both.

Hear that Nobo has his eyes on a couple of special recruits.

I am really interested in what Randall Carroll is going to do --- he and Vontaze Burfict were here over the summer on unofficial visits. Both are committed to USC but both are soft verbals. Neither have taken an official visit to CU but it seems both have some interest.

vk - we're still in the running for Emory Blake. He asked to be taken off as a Texas Tech commit, and has an in-home visit with CU coaches on the 23rd.

boulda - Randall Carroll still has his official visit to USC next week, and is still listed as a "soft verbal" for the Trojans. He took his other visits to UCLA, Cal, and ASU. He would be a great addition to CU, but I would be surprised if he came to CU without taking an official visit. But, hope springs eternal, and it's a good time to be thinking positive.

Kenny, isn't is squirrel hunting season or something?

KS completely messed up their near future starting with last year's recruiting class. Having all of those Juco kids on the roster kind of limits HS kids interest. And then bringing in a retired coach who everyone knows is only there for a couple of years at most (his own admission) and then who knows who will come in to replace him after that?

Good luck to them.

As for those visiting this weekend:

I think Grossnickle commits. It would be nice if TU committed too, but I think he will wait a little longer to consider everything thoroughly. ut it would be great if we land him.

Maybe Justin Brown? We are his only listed visit of the schools he is interested in.

This is all just a guess of course. And I think there are visitors who are not currently listed on Scout as being visitors as well.

It would be nice if we landed some more quality commits soon though.

Average stars of this Buffalo class is in the top 30 in all polls with only 11.

11 more puts this class in the top 25 and ahead of the creamcorncobs...they were 30 last year and will be close again to that number this year.

wagondrivers? looking good and still on probation. 9 and 3 next year with a minor bowl Stoops has proven over and over he can coach em down. And besides Hawk owns him....

Posted by bouldabuff on January 15, 2009 at 11:59 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I guarantee that Snyder and KSU are working really hard to try and steal Andre Simmons from us.

Montana - Randall Carroll could still take one more official visit after his visit to USC next week, here's hoping its to Boulder on January 30th. Maybe Vontaze Burfict will come with him.

Posted by bouldabuff on January 15, 2009 at 12:05 p.m. (Suggest removal)

BuffTime - I would add DeVaughan Thornton to that list. It seems like he was very excited to get something other than a MWC offer.

Not that I wouldn't love to see it, but no way that Carroll or Burfict come to CU. Too much of a long shot.
Although if we were to have a chance I would suggest Kasa reaching out to them and talking about his mindset and fear of getting lost in the shuffle at a big school like Florida. Both could be big fish in little ponds at CU with almost guaranteed playing time, even as true freshman. Meanwhile, go to USC and watch other people play football for 2 years.

earmuffs - I was thinking more along the lines of Darrell Scott reaching out to them. I am sure they have attended one or two 5 star camps together. Blue-chippers, especially ones from the same state tend to develop relationships.

bouldabuff - very true. i am just not sure how DS feels right now in light of his limited playing time this year. But definitely being from the same state might help.
Here's to a strong recruiting weekend. Go Hawk and crew.

BTW - Any word of that McDougal kid?

I thought of adding Thornton but I just don't know much about him except he is a Colorado kid.

Posted by halluxvalgus on January 15, 2009 at 12:29 p.m. (Suggest removal)

the best bet to reach out to Burfict would probably be Devin Head, since they went to the same high school, and MTM is from Corona as well. Unfortunately, seemingly half of Corona Centennial ends up at ASU, and I think that's the most viable alternative to USC for his signature. Carroll will end up at Ucla if not USC.

Posted by BuffTime on January 15, 2009 at 12:31 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I think Scott is a realistic kid. I think he knows he was hurt by the O-line being banged up and him not coming into camp in game shape. He also knows he was hurt. In every interview I have read and seen of the kid he has shown to be a down to earth kid with a good head on his shoulders. He isn't going anywhere and I doubt very seriously that he is unhappy with CU.

He might wish he had redshirted this past year in hind sight, but coming in he wanted to play right away. And I doubt he would want to start over somewhere else. He's here to stay and he is going to be a great Buff.

Ignore Kenny and all of his hot air nonsense. You tend to get a lot of hot air from people who talk out of their tail pipe.

BuffTime's right. I see big things coming from Scott this year, and he definitely showed some flashes of his great potential. His health and the health of the O line didn't help his cause, but I think with another year to grow, he will be even stronger and the O-line will be a lot better. Plus, if some of these WR playmakers commit, the opposing defense will have even more difficulty stopping or containing him.

But then she had a religious awakening and has since refused anything but the most basic, lights-off sex. We pretend to enjoy this joyless ritual, but what I really want is grounds for a divorce she'll never provide. Can I get a "Ladies and gentlemen, the Bob Stoops Era"?

This is scout's visit list, but even Ringo admitted that they don't put all of the names of the players on there. He knew of a few more that weren't on there. But then again, that was before they went from 5 to 8. BTW, Adam Ayala isn't coming, so it is only 7 that are known from this list. Rivals makes you pay to see the recruits visiting.

Coaches have said before that they expect 10-12 visitors this weekend. Maybe some more local kids who can come on their own dime.

Let's ignore Kenny. He's just pouting because his man-crush lost.

We'll just have to "suffer" with our poor recruiting classes we've had under Hawk and his poor record so far. Not like under Barnett who had yearly top 25 recruiting classes.

Sigh.

WHat's up with Ringo's new story on Scout about the coaches recruiting JC O-linemen as being a sign of not having good enough talent at the second level of the depth chart?

I would read it more as a sign that they want experienced depth right away so as not to risk another year like last year. I think we have good talent but they are still young. You need seasoned guys to compete in the Big 12. Can someone with a Scout account read the story and see if it is just a teaser or there is something to it?

Yeah... hmmm... nice trend analysis there genius. Remember in the beginning Barnett had the advantage of Neuweasel's recruits and the reputation that Mac created for CU football. Notice how the rankings trend downward. Then notice how Hawk's classes get better each year. Even with the "false scandal" reputation and poor seasons.

We are ranked in the mid-40's now with half the recruits that most of those ranked higher than us have.

Sorry guys. I meant:

Sigh, ignore.

Kasa said he was scared off by the talk by the coaches that he would be switched to the O-line. And also about being a regular fish in a big pond vs a big fish in a small pond. He also didn't want his parents to uproot themselves if he went to Florida. Not sure why they would have anywya, but he did mention it.

Hawk is a great recruiter. My reply to Kenny was about him saying that Hawk can't recruit given the poor showing so far. I say that is nonsense.

As for the Katie Hnida vs Goodman talk, I think that is pretty piss poor taste. Whether she could kick or not is irrelevant. Barnett was an idiot for making that comment. She was making a rape accusation not complaining about not playing in games. Maybe it is because I have a sister, mother, wife and a daughter that I don't take rape comments lightly.

Grow up and keep this about football.

soup, you hitting it early today?

Nepa it is very interesting data. I looked at the "twin sisters of the cream" data and it is interesting as well when look at coaches and who did what etc.

One can interpet it however one likes.

For example Stoops one and only championship was played with Whos players? It appears they overcame his lack of coaching talent.

As far as barnett goes, I know him, played golf with him, support his charity. Nice guy. Got caught up in himself a little too much and then handled the scandel and katie (she's a girl) episodes in a very poor manner.

He might have gotten the wrong end of the stick, but he had a lot to do with pointing the wrong end directly at himself. Sorry that is just how it is.

But nepa et al the past is the past but you always bring it up. This particular blog is foward looking.

Hawk knows what he signed up for. Harder than he thought. This is either is year or it is not.

I am hoping it is.

Go Buffs

If Kasa had any real sense or aspirations to play in the NFL or have a great education, he would choose Notre Dame over Colorado and Florida

this is an interesting way to look at things. You can look at the different teams at your leisure....

Exactly vk. I've looked at that eligibility tracker a couple of times. If you look at you see a glaring hole where the senior class should be for next year on the O-line. And the Junior class is pretty thin too. If Hawk wants to win now he needs more experienced O-linemen, hence recruiting some JC guys now. I don't think it is an indictment against the quality of the young guys. I think it is smart resource management to bring in some older guys who can play the back-up role or even push to start right away. IF they can get eligible that is.

Of course, to be fair, I have only read the teaser part of the story on Scout so I don't know the full deal.

Anyone read the whole article care to comment?

I’m sure he is a nice Catholic young man who’s parents would be proud if he chose Notre Dame. He would get a great education and all the media attention one could want, since all of their games are televised. Also, the coach has Numerous NFL contacts. This experience would once in a lifetime!

Lance,

That’s a bet! Do your homework and I’ll do mine. I doubt Colorado has sent more to the NFL the either Nebraska or Oklahoma from the 1960's until present.

As for you VK, why would a parent need to relocate to where their son is furthering his education and/or playing sports (football). Most parents don’t relocate to where their children attend school. Actually, I don’t know of any! Is he a Mama’s boy?

don't worry about bill snyder, he likes sneaking up on people, and he will get it going, but will take some time. coach hawk and staff are filling needs, trying to get football players, and he will. consider sammy bradford at oklahoma.....i ask any of you, how gaudy would his numbers have been with the buff o-line, not to mention, "receivers"? just a slight "tap" on his skinny-hiney, and he folds like a three-dollar suitcase. tim tebow is one stud, who absolutely relishes putting a shoulder into linebackers, and, at the college level, does. colt mccoy took some vicious hits, all year, but never flinched. stud. period. the oklahoma legacy with the last five bcs teams is like the roy williams era a ku, close, but the monkey always won. maybe time to move on. sucka.

Lance,

I want to be accurate and fair to Colorado but, for now I’ve counted 242 Husker’s who played in the NFL since 1960. Having trouble finding more than 50 Buffaloes

Geez
how could I have been so stupid the last couple of decades?
cornbred says the Huskers have more NFL players and neepad says the mountains arent worth a season ticket at memorial.
Guess I'm going to sell the ranch, leave the climate, views, fly fishing, skiing, the concerts, other professional sports the educated neighbors and everything else and buy myself a little trailer behind the truck stop just off the interstate at York NE, less than a half hour away from the stadium and valentino's buffet.
And you know what will really make it worth while? I can come on this site and step on buff fans!
Now life can really be good and I can finally be a bigshot!!!!not to mention drowning myself in bud light.
