I think they should be ranked higher than #25 right now. This WVU team is very good.

I wonder which Buff team will show up?

The only consistent thing about Hawkin's coaching is it's inconsistency.

yea it would be nice if the buffs won every game by 50 points and then you silly "nay-sayers" would hopefully go be quiet for a lil while and let coach hawk continue putting pieces in place to once again dominate the big 12...my question is which buff fans will show up--the fickle "buffs and coach hawkins will never be good enough" fans or the "we are behind you and believe in you hawk" fans......blackout.........i do wonder sometimes if some of you really pay attention to college football or is it just about not liking the buffs regardless of coach or players. oh yea, did i mention we are 2-0?? i cant wait to hear the silly excuses from tne hawk 'haters' when we beat wvu and texas....

nepabuff - when you are forced to play so many true freshmen and redshirt freshmen because the previous staff dropped the ball on recruiting, you are going to be inconsistent.

This is a vulnerable but dangerous Mountaineer team. They will come into Folsom angry and looking to knock off a quality opponent on their field. But the Buffs will be ready!

Go Buffs!!!

Posted by nepabuff on September 8, 2008 at 8:31 a.m. (Suggest removal)

What are you talking about? Hawkins has 3 recruiting classes under his belt.

Don't coach well? Blame it on the last guy, even though he's been gone for over 3 years.

This coach's longest win streak is 3 games (with Miami of OH and Baylor in that streak).

Excuses are like "fill in the blank" everybody's got one.

Im one of the first to say "WTF" about the EWU performance, but they keys are that they finished strong to win and are 2-0. Last year, this would have been the proverbial " game we should have won but didnt". This year, playing badly with an OL dominated most of the game and too many penalties\turnovers - we still won. Burn the film and move on, we are 2-0.

We have a week and a half to prep for WVU, who obviously is beatable but will be pissed off. So think of the next 10 days as an extended fall camp. They'll work out some of the problems.

A positive is they only unveiled 20-30% of the playbook for the first two games, thinking they could win without showing all their cards. So criticism of play-calling is premature. Criticism of execution however is warranted. They obviously haven't mastered the 20-30% basics they have shown so far. Too many penalties, mistakes and turnovers. I personally dont care if Josh Smith is the leading KR in the country - secure the #$%$% ball !

Overall I think this could greatly benefit the team. They are humbled. They will still be able to surprise a few teams. They know they have to step it up. Consistency problems will work themselves out.

I'd be very surprised if the execution isn't drastically better the next 2 weeks, as will be the creativity of the offense.

Hawk might have three recruiting classes "under his belt", but I'm not sure that the first one counts as much as the last one. You can't expect a head coach to sign a very strong class when he takes over a program one month before signing day. And if you add to that a program that wasn't in very good shape, most highly rated recruits are going to shy away. Yet he just signed one of the best recruiting classes in recent CU history, so I think he knows what he's doing.

I don't know why everyone expects a team that has had its fair share of ups and downs over the last few years to all of a sudden start playing lights out every week. It takes time to rebuild a program, especially when the new coaching staff is installing a totally different style of play. So just be patient, better things are ahead for CU.

Hawkins didn't arrive until after the bowl game so “his” first recruiting class wasn’t all his and by that time a lot of kids had already committed to other schools or didn’t want to come to a school with a new staff. So that year’s class wasn’t his class completely. Most of the quality players that he was able to recruit redshirted that year. So, most of his players that he recruited are underclassmen.

Look at how many starters are seniors, and that tells a lot about the youthfulness of this team. With the exception of a handful of senior leaders, leaderships from upper classmen are less then most successful programs. So your three recruiting class argument doesn’t tell the whole story.

Hawkins’ second and third classes were ranked and those are the guys to watch in the future.

Nepa is just blowing off steam because his Huss-Skers lost their best D-lineman for the season.

Putting aside the numerous negatives from Saturday's game. It's impossible to duplicate, via practice, the sense of urgency the Buff’s experienced and thrived on in a come-from-behind victory. What we saw in the EW game was carry-over from beating Oklahoma last season. This Buff squad is capable of getting their sh** together in the 2nd half of games and overcoming their short comings and slow starts.

I’d prefer CU crush weaker teams, but we learned this Buff team doesn’t mail it in like a Barnett team certainly would have.

'nota'buff is still just mad we beat his beloved lams and that coach lubick is gone and his program is headed for tough times...that's what happens when you lose your bowl game in week one...nothing left to cheer for in the 'fort' other than that "border" war stuff with wyoming where the winner gets a thumbtack or a pair of socks...keep the negatvie "hawk sucks" stuff coming clown, i mean nepakenny, lol.........blackout........buffs need a good week of practice, we will be in the top 25 after the wvu game.....go buffs!!!!!

Danny Spond of Columbine, the QB on the front page of today’s CU Rivals homepage, is going to be our most important recruiting target next season. The kid is 6'4, a developing passer and a fantastic running threat. Spond is already considered a Top-10 QB in the class of 2010. He is perfect for Hawkins spread-like offense.

Keep an eye on him Buff fans. He is the next big thing.

Posted by nepabuff on September 8, 2008 at 10:17 a.m. (Suggest removal)

When a coach almost gets beat in what is supposed to be a tune up game, that coach is overrated.

Hawk's teams seem to habitually get in a hole in the first half. This is nothing new. That's poor preparation.

Where was the running game? What happened to the O-Line? How come no one can hold on to the ball?

Posted by nwbuff32 on September 8, 2008 at 10:18 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Spond will most likely not be playing QB in college. He has played LB his whole life and he is playing QB for the first time this year. He is a top 10 Athlete, not QB. He comes from a program that runs the ball 90% of the time.

If he gets an offer from UGA, he is most likely a Dawg lock.

Big 12 Defensive Co-Players of the Week
Cha’pelle Brown, Colorado, CB, Jr, La Puente, Calif.
Cha’pelle Brown returned an interception 27 yards for a touchdown with 1:44 left in the game to rally Colorado to victory over Eastern Washington. The junior cornerback made six tackles, all solo, including two third down stops. He also contributed a tackle for no yards and broke up two passes

EWU highlights.... Doesn't show any CU mistakes, but a shows a couple nice plays by Scott and J-Fly.

Posted by cubuff85 on September 8, 2008 at 10:54 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Salsa you nailed it. The big positives from the first two games is that the coaching staff made the adjustments at halftime and the players responded. Young teams make mistakes but this team does not quit when they do get down. Bashing Hawk and his staff is ridiculous. We're young and play on the edge which makes everyone uncomfortable. As this team matures the Hawk haters will disappear, except for Kenny. GO BUFFS!

Posted by DabuffsRulz on September 8, 2008 at 11:15 a.m. (Suggest removal)

People need to look around. Ohio State struggled at home against ohio! this team showed the heart to come back. And even displayed that talent in the process. I love what the EWU DB said about us not being a big 12 type team. Yet we beat them even after all our mistakes. People are gonna say o without those interceptions we wouldn't have won. Well without our interception and fumble they wouldn't have had a lead at halftime. So take away the mistakes and we won 24-10. which isnt good but we still found a way to win.

Posted by archalon on September 8, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. (Suggest removal)

According to nepakenny's logic, the coaches of Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Virgina Tech and Nebraska are overrated too

OSU, NU and and ND needed solid 4th quarters from their team to win against lesser opponents. So did we, and we got it. It happens.

Defense allowed 3 pts in the last 38 minutes of the game, Cody was there in crunch time and the defense had two huge INTs in the end.

2-0 - regardless of how pretty - is still 2-0. They still can take WVU and Texas is the 2nd youngest team in the nation with a less experianced defensive backfield than even we have (5 freshman safeties). Both are at home.

They'll win two of the next 3. Even if they split WVU\FSU, we still head to conference at 3-1 - what real fan wouldnt be happy with that ?

Posted by nepabuff on September 8, 2008 at 11:56 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Typical response.

CU's been sputtering along going on 3 years. The longest win streak was 3 games, the losing streak was 10 games.

Here we go again in year 3 sputtering against high school talent, almost on the receiving end of an embarrassing loss.

I got news, FSU won their tune up 69-0. West Virginia is not a D II team.

Hawkins has not done a very good job getting teams ready. The other team is always more well prepared than his is.

Can we focus on our own team and not the constant NU re-hashing ? The Order Restored and Return to Dominance, blah, blah. .....is tiring. Im a diehard CU fan and it wears thin to always have NU discussion.

Though NU lost their best DT, only managed 99 yds on 30+ carries rushing and struggled to beat a lesser opponent, I think we have our own issues to address.

Word: DO NOT make fun of the guys running Ralphie. Need I say why?

Posted by mgmtgrad on September 8, 2008 at 2:26 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Regarding Ralphie, I was at a CU game when two players from the other team were out on the field trying to stir things up when Ralphie came around their side; Ralphie took one of them out. It was funny as s**t to see those two guys try to scramble out of the way. One just barely didn't make it and got the Buffalo by the horns.

Hahahaha

Don't mess with Ralphie, the coolest mascot in college football. As for the handlers, you try training and handling an 800lb animal or whatever Ralphie weighs.

ARchalon

SJSU D - 1 > EWU D1 AA now known as FCS.

So, up till now Nebraska has played the tougher schedule and don't give me this BS about EW beating both WM and SJSU.

If you have read my earlier post regarding quality of WMU you know of what I speak. Not to mention the multitude of buffie fan's that I watched all spring and summer predict a WMU spanking of NU. Oh, now that it didnt happen, WMU must just suck. TWO FACED HYPOCRITES

As for SJSU, Yes they came in not knowing who there Qb was for the season, but I think upon leaving they now have a very good Qb. Their qb performed admirably for first start.

SJSU defense was a handful at times for the Huskers. They had a pretty solid front 7 group with USC transfer DE Jeff Schwieger, who was on USC 04 title team. Also had a couple other pretty stout players.

NU is missing a couple o lineman right now and they are playing the wrong RB. By time Big 12 season rolls around I expect to see R. Helu starting at I back. Of the three he has by far looked the best and has since late last year.

WMU should do well in their conference and SJSU should be a competitive team all year. I don't think EWU has enough athletes to beat either of these teams.

Lost DE B. Turner for year but inside line play has been impressive. Steinkuhler, Suh and others are putting heat on QB from the inside and DE Potter is playing well.

Turner will be missed, was athletic DE guy who could play OLB also. Replaced by TJ grad Pierre Allen who played a heck of a game. 10 tackles 3 for loss.

Let me repeat: No one cares. Nebraska is not only not the center of the universe, it's not the center of college football world. NO one cares.

How else can we say it? NO ONE CARES!

Hey luvdahuskers I can understand why us Buff fans are on this board every day, but why are you?

I find it funny that husker fans come on our board all year long even though our game against your team isn’t till the end of the season. But mention rivalry and you guys go ape s**t trying to prove it’s not a rivalry.

So if it’s not a rivalry then just go away. If you and other huskers fans keep posting here all season long about games that have nothing to do with you then that can only mean it is a rivalry. Otherwise why would you follow CU so closely?

The only why you can prove me wrong is to go away till the two weeks before the game. I say two weeks prior, since both teams have a bye the week before.

So I challenge you to prove me wrong, that it is not a rivalry by going away or prove me right by continuing to post here. It’s your choice.

Of course any good sports fans like us CU fans will give you your last say, but after that just go away or you’ve proven my point; plain and simple.

Posted by SnowBuff on September 8, 2008 at 11:13 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Nope. Stop saying silliness about replacing Cody Ice. he completed 74% of his passes for 250 yards and 3 TDs. WTF more do you want from a QB getting stomped all game?

Posted by mgmtgrad on September 9, 2008 at 2:01 a.m. (Suggest removal)

You are so correct SnowBuff; Cody's stats are fair for hard fought games. In fact if he stays at one or less interception per a game and he can build on his success from the four games at the end of last season, he will be OK.

Add 300+ yards rushing a game that is spread around with CUs’ new talents at RBs along with J-Fly and others getting some rushing yards, it’s too not inconceivable for over 300 yards rushing a game.

Add to that Special Teams returns and yards will all start to add up.

Just watch, if spread around then total yards a game will start to grow and time of possession will grow and CU will surprise some.

I wish I could predict a 10-12 win season, but they play the games for a reason and that’s what makes them fun.

After the come from behind wins against OU and NU last year and a 2-0 start, I can watch every game knowing the possibility of a win exists. Even if they are behind, I have to believe in this team, by proof as stated above that they could come back to win.

So if you’re whining after two hard fought wins and no losses, by a young team, we can’t help you enjoy the games any more or less. But when I see the resiliency of this team with their come from behind wins and ability to stay in the game I’m proud of them and am glad to be a fan.

So, I’m always into the game even if behind, watching and waiting for the comeback that is still possible. So, sorry to those Buff fans and those that always have negatives things to say, even after a 2-0 start of this season.

DC coverage is very poor for being the hometown paper. Ringo's side gig is hindering his abilities, but more importantly, the editorial staff needs a wake up call.

The parity across college football at all levels is the same parity that helps us compete with OU last year and will help us against KU,MU, etc. It should be embraced.

A W is a W.

Posted by StopTheInsanity on September 9, 2008 at 7:37 a.m. (Suggest removal)

The obvious parity in college football cuts both ways. As Arch says, on any given day, it gives any program the chance to beat the Big 12's best.

At the same time, the leveling of the talent nationwide can make a game against the so-called 'mid-tier" teams quite a challenge.

sad bitter angry delusional husker fans still mad about 62-36 and how it put your program on life support with still only a faint pulse. nobody cares about your "washed up" "forgotten" "irrelevant" program so stop trying to convince us your back, you sound desperate and piytful....let me give you clowns a history lesson: check the teams we played in 1990 for our title versus any year you bums got your "fraud" ones. and your so-called legend coach osbourne is a yellow-bellied COWARD that "instructed" his players and coaches to QUIT in the 1990 bowl game v ga tech so that a true legend coach, MAC, would not win a title first and then that bum quit, ran with his tail between his legs, when the big 8 went to the big12 cuz he didnt want to play those big bad texas schools, same pathetic program that put "Sals dead go big red" sign at a basketball game..in 2001 the so-called #1 team in the BCS with a crybaby heisman trophy winner came to boulder and got SMASHED by a buff team with more heart. that game got a long time coach fired, cheers frankie-have another cold one!!, and changed the whole "look" of the program, ask jamaal lord. keep wearing that big 8 champ shirt cua for the past 10 years you chumps have done NOTHING-no big 12 titles, no bcs games, cant beat ou or texas, no heismans, and gets 77 put on by tech,, 70+ by kansas, in other words you have been a JOKE...did i mention 65-51??? win a meaningful game morons and then come in here and run your mouths, now you just sound pityful...and try and keep that 'hothead' coach from going across the field after games trying to beat up 65 yr old coaches like coach synder at kansas state...no worries cuz once you bums get to conference play you wont be in here--just like that COWARD osbourne you will run and hide and come back next fall talking the same nonsense...now put that in your cornpipe and smoke it....oh yea and maybe we can keep our coaches from making "throat slash" jestures errrrr "ive had it up to here!!' and instructing players to "headbutt" other teams bandmembers is sweet to.....A GREAT COACH ONCE SAID--"EVEN THE WORSE DAY IN COLORADO IS BETTER THAN THE BEST DAY IN NEBRASKA"--we are the true blackshirts, pinkshirts better describes a defense that gives up 65, 77 and 70+ points...class dismissed cloWns.......BLACKOUT..........

You are the worst flamer that has ever come onto this forum

I would worry about your own team. You guys to do not look good at all.

QB- Ganz is a serious turnover concern. He can light it up but he has 3 ints against mediocre defenses
RB- Lucky is not putting up good numbers. Thought he was supposed to be AA.
OL- Need some serious tweaking before Big 12 play. Thought this was supposed to be a huge strength.
DL-Losing Barry Turner will make it a very long season for your pass rush. You are not deep at this position.
LB- Little talent and experience. Teams will be able to run at will. VTech will rush for 200 yds at least.
DB- You guys have been exposed at this position by two mediocre teams as well. Teams are going to light up your secondary.

So take a moment to read this and let it sink in. You are not a very good team and have no right to come here and try flame the Buffs. Beat Virginia Tech and then come back here. Until then, GTFO.

A flamer is someone that tries to flame on internet forums. But since you jumped to the fact that it had something to do with being gay, I think we all know your choice of lifestyle. You must wrestle for kNU.

My point is that since you do not have a good team, you have no business coming here and talking trash. Put down the meth.

dahuskers,

As I posted above, but maybe you choose not to read a post directly posted at you so here it is again.

Hey (luv)dahuskers I can understand why us Buff fans are on this board every day, but why are you?

I find it funny that husker fans come on our board all year long even though our game against your team isn’t till the end of the season. But mention rivalry and you guys go ape s**t trying to prove it’s not a rivalry.

So if it’s not a rivalry then just go away. If you and other huskers fans keep posting here all season long about games that have nothing to do with you then that can only mean it is a rivalry. Otherwise why would you follow CU so closely?

The only way you can prove me wrong is to go away till the two weeks before the game.

Since we are not your rival....

OU 7 national titles > Duhbraska 5 national titles

BTW, we beat OU last year. When was the last time your mediocre program did that? Oh thats right the same year we stomped you 62-36.

how desperate and pathetic do you sound when your only answer is "we have 5 rings" when in the last 10 years the ONLY meaningful wins your "forgotten"
program has is a "watered down" michigan and "tired" colorado team...you ladies havent beaten texas or ou, no big 12 titles, blown out by kansas and ttech 77 lol, and "punished" by colorado several times...i know, i know you still have those previous big 8 titles to brag about, lol. WIN A MEANINGFUL GAME AND THEN RUN YOUR MOUTH. this happens every year when you clowns beat omaha tech, kearney city college and scottsbluff commuinty college in the preseason and then disappear when conference play starts...and since your football team is a joke you start the boulder is a hippy city, go have some recruiting parties and how's rae caruth doing nonsense....just sad bitter angry busker fans still "lost" since 62-36...we DESTROYED your beloved program with one game and you cant deal with it, get some therapy my sick lil delusional red friend....every sports fan outside of that "waste of space" called nebraska knows your program is a joke...you are starting to sound like csu lam fan--"if we beat colorado our season is made!!!" sad and pathetic

Nice post Rodrigo.

I also find it funny that a "student athlete” that can’t meet CU admission requirements can just walk over to NU and get accepted. We all know that has happened more then once.

So be proud of the only thing your state has going for it. No pro programs at all in any sport and the only thing to do or worship is a university that accepts players that don’t qualify at other schools.

And you come on our boards and call us losers.

As long as we CU fans know the truth, you can yell all you want, but it still doesn’t change anything.

Now even Oregon fans from another conference are talking smack about your team. How does it feel to not go to a bowl last year, but be one of the most hated teams in the Nation? You’re not hated cause you’re the best, your hated because of all your trolls out there living in the past.

You guys fired the coach with the best record your team has had in the last 6 years. Hahahaha.

Rejected by their own, posters (or posers, more likely) like Dahuskers and Velkin suffer further igonominy by desperately seeking attention on the sites of opposing teams. These woeful creatures do not even possess the modicum of intelligence necessary to be embraced by their fellow fans, so they are forced to trawl the Net in search of notoriety because they are unwelcome at their own fan sites. Sloping foreheads, knuckles dragging, struggling to balance their over-sized buttocks onto "their bar stool" at the local Husker watering hole, where, over a plate of nachos smothered in processed cheese and Bud Light, they strain to find a sympathetic ear remotely interested in their boorish tales of stirring up the Buffs faithful. Unimpressed, the other patrons mutter something half-heartedly supportive, ("cool Dexter," or "wow, way to go Chuckie"), then they chalk their pool cues and go back to ignoring the inebriated slothful barfly with the self-esteem of a rejected aspiring high school cheerleader.

DahSUCKERS: I can tell you one thing for sure -- you're not one of the acamedic all americans! you never even graduated from NU. you were a decent high school jock from a piss ant godforsaken bump of a dusty Nebraskan town who dreamed coach osborne was going to put you on scholarship. all the local chicks, politicians and townspeople genuflected when you strode by. coach tom never called. you had to explain to everyone why you were playing ball at some dinky community college instead of for Big Red, but assured everyone you were still getting recruited by NU. it never happened. then the chicks and the adulation dried up. people got tired of your "story" and hearing from your parents and friends how NU was just about to offer you. you were working 9-5, knocked up your girlfriend, developed a gut and spent most of your time explaining to anyone who would still listen how you remained on track to be a big-time athlete. now you're reduced to this, posting on a CU board -- a team you don't even like -- just to get attention and to try to impress the boys down at the copy shop ("hey, i really stirred them up this week guys! you should check out the Daily Camera's web site!"). you're a pathetic intellectual midget with long faded delusions of playing in the pros. bury the dream, my friend. move on.

How many are football players with degrees in engineering or finance or other of the more rigorous studies and what about CU’s numerous Rhodes Scholars Awards? Not just Social Studies or degree in programs around the sports department.

Nebraska has been the doormat of the BIG XII since we hung 62 points on them. A record that has been broken time and again by others & CU.

So why would nu be ANYONES rival????

So if you guys are here to lick your wounds, its OK by me. You will all be running for cuver once your football factory mounts its losses like last year. Given the pathetic recruiting Bo Didly has been doing, bragging is the last thing cornheads should be doing.

Vegas brings up a great point too, your stadium is full all the time cause there is absolutely nothing to do in your state. There is a lot more to do in CO on a Sat afternoon than go to a game. There are no other sports teams in Nebraska (oh, sorry, I heard Creighton has a pretty solid field hockey team) The state will never bring in a professional team. I wonder if they tried to bring in pro basketball from Seattle. There is no demand or desire to travel to Nebraska, except for football that is.

You are really going to look foolish if you ask everyone here what there is to do in Colorado, so please, go ahead and ask the question.
