Buffs spikers keep rolling

CU off to first 6-0 start after second tourney title

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The Colorado volleyball team continued its best start in program history on Saturday by winning their second tournament of the season.

The Buffs rolled past Texas Southern in three games, 25-12, 25-8, 25-9, and moved past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 25-11, 25-23, 25-11, en route to the title of the Islander Holiday Inn-Emerald Beach Invitational.

Seniors Lauren Schaefer and Amber Sutherland were named to the all-tournament team while Alex Buth was named the tournament's MVP.

The win makes CU 6-0 this season, the first time in history the Buffs has started a season 6-0.

Buth recorded 13 kills against TSU, the third time she has achieved 13 or more this season. She also added four digs.

Callie Webster led the Buffs in digs with 10 and Schaefer hit a team-high .833 with five kills.

In the second match, Edelman, Schaefer and Sutherland each led the Buffs with nine kills each, and Buth added eight. CU held the Islanders to a .075 hitting percentage.

Schaefer led the Buffs with five blocks while Edelman added four.

Colorado will get a big test of that 6-0 record next week at the Colorado Invitational in Boulder. The Buffs take on instate rival No. 17 Colorado State on Wednesday, No. 8 Florida on Thursday and North Carolina on Saturday. All matches are set for a 6:30 p.m. start.
