CU men golfers in 4th in Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Colorado junior Derek Tolan fired a second-round 67 Wednesday to finish the day with a 142 total, putting him in a tie for fourth in the Western Intercollegiate.

The Buffs finished the day fourth in the team standings (586), 21 strokes behind leading Michigan State.

Tolan opened with a 75, but shaved eight strokes off that score in the second round and sits seven strokes behind leader Mike McRae of St. Mary's.

Buff Luke Symons was tied for fifth after a first-round 70, but managed just a 77 in the afternoon round and finished the day tied for 17th with teammate Michael Imperato.

The 67 was Tolan's best collegiate score, topping a 68 he posted in the New Mexico Tucker Invitational last September. It was one of just nine rounds below par recorded on Wednesday, and tied for the best in the afternoon.

Tolan also had one of just 10 eagles Wednesday on the 6,511-yard, par-70 Pasatiempo Golf Club course, but scored the unique of the bunch as he holed out his approach shot on No. 4, a 378-yard, par-4 that only saw 26 birdies in two rounds.

Netters fall to LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Colorado tennis team just missed picking up its biggest win of the young season Wednesday when the Buffs fell 4-3 to No. 27 LSU.

The near-miss in Baton Rouge snapped the Buffaloes' winning streak at five matches and dropped CU's record to 6-7. The Lady Tigers broke a three-match losing skid improving to 9-6. Five of LSU's six losses have come against schools ranked in the top 20.

The 4-3 loss is the fifth time this season the Buffaloes have fallen by that margin.
