The 2007 USA Outdoor champion and a 2008 Olympic Team member, Barringer won the race in 9 minutes 22.73 seconds, breaking Anna Willard's 17-day old American record of 9:27.75, set July 3 at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
Barringer and Willard battled for the win, but it was Barringer who brought the biggest kick in the final 30 meters to grab the victory. Willard finished second in a personal best of 9:22.76.
Barringer's time is the 12th fastest in the world this year.
She became the fourth athlete to earn the USATF honor twice during the 2008 season. She also won on June 18 after winning her second NCAA 3,000-meter steeplechase title in 9:29.20, which at the time was the fastest time run on American soil.
