The freshman-to-be was ranked as the No. 1 high school running back prospect by most of the online gurus and was named Big 12 Newcomer of the year by conference media members on Thursday.
But so far Scott is just another face in the crowd attending freshman orientation and getting familiar with the Boulder campus. According to veteran players, the highly touted Scott isn't expected to join his future CU teammates on the field for voluntary workouts until later in the summer.
Scott earned All-America honors from Parade, SuperPrep and USA Today as a high school senior. The 6-2, 215-pound back rushed for 2,433 yards and 33 touchdowns last season while leading St. Bonaventure High School to a state championship.
CU senior George Hypolite was the only Colorado player named to the 27-man preseason All-Big 12 team, also announced Thursday. The 6-1, 285-pound defensive tackle was selected first-team All-Big 12 after last season by the Associated Press and the conference coaches.
Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel was selected as the preseason offensive player, and Oklahoma defensive end Austin English was selected as the defensive player of the year.
Two Colorado prep products -- Phil Loadholt (Fountain-Fort Carson High School) and Jon Cooper (FortCollins High) -- were named to the team. Both are Oklahoma offensive linemen.
Missouri had eight selections, the most of any team in the conference.

Yes, he is on campus. He was at the AD yesterday filing paperwork so he can practice.

While it is nice personally for DS, it really means nothing. Just like the pre-season team rankings. If they say the same thing at the end of the season then it has real meaning.
DS has a lot of hype to live up to. I hope he takes it as a real challenge to live up to and doesn't start believing it.

The first of many, many awards for Scott, I hope. If he stays healthy and remembers to hit the books enough. The big surprise for the media may turn out to be Polk.

I'm sure Cody is 100% ok with D Scott getting this attention. Cody seems like a team player all the way and i shappy to share the spotlight.
By the way, didn't Jermie Calhoun play for some tiny school that played 8-man football?

Tall, I see that you are muckraking again. Your last post has the obvious innuendo that Cody might get perturbed or upset about all the media attention that DS will be getting. Unlike yourself, Cody is well-grounded and doesn't need media attention to feed his ego.
I am also looking forward to seeing Jermie Calhoun in action. Scout listed Calhoun as the #1 ranked running back, whereas Rivals listed DS as the #1 ranked running back. We will see which one eventually proves to be the better running back.

The preseason hype is to the sports writers what this board is to the posters. A way to kill time until practice starts. Dont really care about Mizzou-the last time they did anything that was sustained was in basketball. Buffs need to worry about CSU. Those guys have put us in a hole more than once when we thought we were Johnny Wad. Cody needs to worry about how to get the rock to "he who shall remain nameless" and not about his pub. Dude should only have to throw about 10 times a game with the backfield we have anyway. Uh-oh-I forgot about our D....

i'm a huge colorado fan however, is darrel scott 6'2 215 or 6'0 205? I've seen conflicting reports.I'm just wondering if i will be seeing the next adrian peterson ot LT? Maybe a combo of both! Also for all the cody hawkins haters out there, i would like to name a former colorado qb who was alot like cody. robert hodge, he was a solid qb. he was able to run the offense and let other players pick up the slack ( McCoy, Hackett, Purify). I'm stoked for college ball, this season has all the makings to be special
Posted by BuffMan6236 on July 18, 2008 at 12:28 a.m. (Suggest removal)
You did NOT just compare Robert Hodge to Cody Hawkins. Good God man! Hodge couldn't throw 20 yards.
Hawkins just set the Freshman QB record at CU. He doesn't have a big gun, but he can sling the ball well.
Geez.

yea, Bernard Jackson through a better ball than hodge.
Off topic- Just watched a highlight on darian hagan getting tackled by two men and pitching it 7 yards out over another guys head. Amazing! Oh yea and it was with his left hand against oklahoma. Top 5 option qb's 2 ever play.
Im probably biased... Between him and frasier is a toss up. Of course id take hagan

btw- hodge was probably the worst passer cu has ever seen...Or at least that i have seen. He would have been a much better runningback

Id rather have a qb that can only pass rather than only run. At least that opens up the play book.

Hodge was terrible and he was cursed from the beginning with his interception on the fake punt play in the '01 CCG. I do see what he means in the fact that he wasn't amazing and the offense was still efficient, however I think the comparison ends there.

Hodge certainly could throw on this play - first 35 seconds.

Great hit about 2:40 too - Strickland might be one of the most underrated players in recent program history. He put the goal line hit on NU's Dietrick causing the fumble in the 2001 game too.

Oh yeah, that's right - you didnt watch the games.

Arch-- Agreed on Strickland... I still remember his stick on Sproles right on the goal line to solidify a win against KSU. That was about 10 feet in front of my seats, great game...
Posted by SnowBuff on July 18, 2008 at 9:07 a.m. (Suggest removal)
I also notice that NU had the record broken for most points scored on them in a single game last year. The sad thing is that CU TRIED to get the record back, but we fell short with a MERE 65 points...
Cody grew up by the end of the season. He won't ever light the league on fire or win games all by himself, but he should settle into a 2-1 TD-INT ratio and he has a good chance to break every single passing record in CU's books.

Hawkins averaged 275.0 yards over the final three games, with seven touchdowns and only two interceptions and entered the Independence Bowl with a streak of 70 straight passes without throwing a pick.
Contrast that to a QB such as Ganz, who fell apart late in the season, throwing 7 picks in the last 3 games
Posted by BuffNut99 on July 18, 2008 at 9:24 a.m. (Suggest removal)
Bernard Jackson was the worst passer in this program in recent years (since 1982). Hodge was the most erratic - I remember when USC came here, Hodge was 1-8 passing and was sacked about 9 times. Against K-State, he was 13-20 for about 300 yeards and a few (long) scores.
Cody is way more consistent, a better leader, and a smarter player. Several of the picks he through last year we not his fault, and he learned how to avoid having the ball tipped at the line of scrimmage as the year went on. He will have a great Sophomore season, and a great career - and his naysayers will be nowhere to be found.
Go Buffs! Not much longer to wait now...
Posted by archalon on July 18, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. (Suggest removal)
BTW - throw out each teams most lopsided loss - CU to MU and NU to Kansas - and CU lost 6 games by a 7.2 ppg avg.
NU lost 6 games by 19.83 ppg avg.
CU was much more competitive with a younger and more inexperienced team against a tougher schedule
That doesnt change over night

Tall- "the CU freshman record for interceptions"?
Are you kidding me? how many Freshmen in CU history got the PT Cody did? Can you research that for us and report back - in say 20 years. Thx.
By the way - NU wins 6 games max in '08. Probably 4 or 5. Little talent, no head coaching experience, weak d coordinator (if you can call Carl the d coordinator). All NUs hope rests on the legs Marlon Lucky. Oh, and a crappy o- coordinator. Belive me, we've seen it before.

The interceptions aside, the flip side for Ganz is he threw 16 touchdown passes and 1475 yards over his last three games. Those games were his first actual starts and he had very little real game time before then. He is still a relative unknown and he is being over looked.
Posted by archalon on July 18, 2008 at 9:59 a.m. (Suggest removal)
The TEAM lost 5 out of the last 7 - NU, as a TEAM, lost 6 out of the last 7.
oh, and Ganz lost 3 of 4 he started.
Like you said, 'Even the most dedicated homer would have to say that sucked"
Posted by archalon on July 18, 2008 at 10:07 a.m. (Suggest removal)
Interceptions aside, Ganz had 148 passing attempts, mostly playing catchup against prevent defenses.
Cody had 94 against team legitimately trying to stop CU
Posted by archalon on July 18, 2008 at 10:10 a.m. (Suggest removal)
.......for comparison, with Ganz's attempts, Cody projects to 1238yds, 15 tds and less than 2 picks over the same three games.
No one is overlooking Ganz, his play against CU in the second half shows what he really is.

I'm a buff fan in Nebraska & the Huskers have seen quite a share of hyped players coming in that did nothing in the long run (quarterbacks). Marlon Lucky is on the preseason list but has never lived up to the hype he has gotten here. He is a good back but not what the Huskers expected from him, especially when he was a freshman/sophmore. I hope Darrell Scott doesn't let the hype get to him and I hope he performs as a freshman.

In my car this morning I heard Dan Hawkins in a radio interview on the Tim Brando show, and here's the highlights:
1) All 3 RB recruits (Scott, Polk, Stewart) have the chance to play right away.
2) Cody needs to do a better job limiting his turnovers, but is having a great summer.
3) Young team, but sophomores are already emerging as leaders of the team (Cody included).
4) Schedule is brutal, but Hawk said that's why he came to the Big 12 - to play the best.
The best part was when Tim Everett (filling in for Brando) talked about how the media selects the pre-season conference standings (He is a voter in the Harris poll). He said it's not about how teams finished the year before - the two biggest factors are number of returning playmakers and upcoming schedule (including when and where games are played).
He went on to rip Nebraska, who he claims has a history of scheduling cupcakes every year (then listed this years schedule to prove his point) and he took offense to NU calling it a "pre-season" schedule which he saw as snotty. He attributed some of NU success in the 80s and 90s to this strategy of playing softies. He said it was Callahan who actually had some guts and tried to change that trend with some tougher non-con games. He joked that when NU scheduled USC recently, he initially assumed it must have been South Connecticut. Unfortunately it backfired on Callahan and he got fired.
This is no joke, I was cracking up listening to it.
The moral of the story: If you grow a set, you will be fired by Nebraska.

On the subject of Ganz...he was the favorite over Keller for QB by many people just because of his attitude. He surprised everyone when we found out he could play. But he only played part of a season. This year i think defensive coordinators will figure him out. I expect Cody to have a much better year (as long as DS provides some run support).

I think Ray Polk is going to be HUGE for us this year and beyond. Everyone knows about DS including the opposing teams, but by Polk coming in the defense will have a bonafide homerun threat in the backfield on almost every play. They won't get a break when Scott comes out and will have to load the box or they'll get torched. Cody should get more 1 on 1 looks downfield, so if Smith, Simas, PWilliams, McKnight, and Celestine can step up their game or offense could be deadly for the next couple years with all these young kids.
Not to mention the O-line is about to have one of the best 3 year runs in recent program history.
Sucks to wear red this year.

we all know talligal just still real bitter over 62-36 and that his program still on life support. and part of the reason i refer to that "so-called" legend osbourne as a coward is because he loved to play creampuffs early and use them as "scrimmages" for the extinct option play. just check the teams the bugeaters played in ANY of their "fraud" title years versus the teams the buffs played in 1990. better one "real" title than several "soft" ones. and check the score of the ga tech v nebraska bowl game in 1990, coach tom instructed his coaches and players to QUIT in that game so MAC wudnt win title first and the bum retired errrr QUIT when joining the big 12 to avoid those scary texas schools. find another D1 program that plays the first 5-6 games at home versus community colleges, some things never change, sad and pathetic....cody reminds me a lil of detmer and he will only get better. robert hodge, mike moschetti, bobby pesavento and our favorite son john hessler--LOVE YA JOHN!! all never made any "blue dip" magz but played with more heart than most qbz and il take them kinda kids every saturday in black and gold over so-called "blue dips" like jamaal lord and curt dukes. who was last north team to win the big 12? KU, mizzou and nebs have had their chance and FAILED, now let the "REAL BLACKSHIRTS" get th job done. we will win th big 12 and a bcs game and by time hawk jr graduates we have another national title and second heisman trophy winner but will it be cody or darrell??? exciting huh??? or you could move to lincoln and watch "ho-hum" football v "community collges" with the other red "clones" and watch some "hothead" head coach chasing other team coaches into the locker rooms after games swinging a corncob. "WE WANT TURNER!!" "WE WANT TURNER!!" dr tom could return as coach but im not sure all big 12 sidelines are wheelcair accesible. and baBUFF-it sucks to wear red any year, remember, "the worst day in colorado is better...." -some great coach once said that.

Did I read that correctly? Did tally just post the fact that the only remaining coach on the Nebraska staff is Shawna Watson with the intent of putting a positive spin on the bugeater's coaching situation?
It's a positive alright...for every defense that has to face Shawna's ridiculoulsly lame game plan. It's positive for CU that we don't have that clown walking our sidelines.
Not sure what is a bigger joke, tallisal (or whatever he is calling himself this week) and his sad little zingers, or Shawn Watson and what he tries to pass off as an NCCA gameplan.

I can see a tackle elgible play in the red zone with Geer and Solder stepping on defenders in the end zone.

That's wonderful...tell me who on those NU teams is going to help them beat the Buffs this year? Right, they're all long gone.
New Kids on the Block were pretty popular back in the early 90s too and they won some awards. But they suck now. Just like Big Red.

This is the first I heard that academic issues prevented DS from enrolling in June. Maybe I just missed it?
"Credits for a required algebra class, or lack thereof, prevented Colorado's star football signee from enrolling in June as planned, but CU running backs coach Darian Hagan believes tailback Darrell Scott will be ready to show his stuff in August drills."

This just in.....TO just enacted legislation that all teams outside of Nebraska must roll over and lose this year if they face the huskers....Teams which beat the huskers will be arrested and jailed....

Hawk will be 1 - 0 against Bo. When Bo wins 4 games, Turner Gill will get hired in '09.

Bo is 0-0 against...everyone. Never won a game, should be interesting...

It doesn't matter if we give up 85 as long as we score 86. The only stat that matters is wins and losses, right tall?

you lost, you are a loser....that is why they keep score. I dont see anyone here throwing out pisssant technical excuses over your exhumation of the 90's

I thought Les Miles was the head coach at LSU.

Bo's team? C'mon, don't kid yourself. Why do you think Miles threatening to leave for Michigan dominated the headlines for weeks, but Bo leaving hardly made a splash?
Bo's team...that's hilarious.

A lot of those points were in mop up time. The last 14 points were pretty much garbage as the game had been decided.
If I was a husker fan I'd be concerned that your top LB has never played a snap at LB and was a running back last year. Even with 4 or 5 wins Bo will be back. They'll give him a few years to turn it around. Although it would be really fun to watch Bo implode and only last one year.

Face it, the man has more experience in his little finger than Hawk does in his entire body.
for one nanosecond lets peer into tall's delusonal mind and pretend this is true.
Why should Tall care? Why has he been here for 2 years obssessively bashing the Hawkins? His obession has reached to point of psychosis. Why is that? What did Hawkins do to him?

What's sad is, tall and the rest of the misguided NU faithful actually think they can talk smack with OU fans despite the Corn's woeful record over the last 4-5 years....better be able to walk the walk before talking the talk.
On another note, I hope Jones' dad is able to sue/prosecute Conradt all the way into next season. Fabricating lies about 18-19 year old kids like that is absolutely shameful.

DC just posted a story that Geer pled guilty to a misdemeanor of 3rd degree assault. Fall status up in the air according to the story.

Looks like about as good a solution as Geer could have hoped for - we'll just have to see how everything plays out on the 18th.
If Geer were in Lincoln (or almost anywhere else), he would have been in drills with his teammates all summer.

what is really pityful about talligal is that after the buskers go 5-0 after beating omaha tech and kearney city college, oh yea and a "forgotten about" va tech team he will be in here screaming "WE ARE BACK BABY!!!" only until conference play starts and then the excuses start. and then after losing to the buffaloes again he will disappear for about 5 months and return with a new "handle" spouting more silly nonsense. sad, pathetic.....true. talligal is starting to sound like more and more like csu lam fan---beat colorado and our season is made!!!

the nice thing is that we do not need Geer so we will be good even if he cannot play. can nu say that if they lost a top player. nu sucks. tall needs to get a life or go play in the road. know one wants to know about nu or ou so shutt up. this is a colorado buffs site so if you you need to say thinds about over team go to they site. next year the buffs will win 12 games and beat nu 77-24
What team can't they beat?
oh ya they can win them all
nu wouldbe lucky to win 6

what buffs44 said. its time to rid this site-"our home" of these pesky bitter LIL RED roaches. colorado does, has and always will play better football than that "overhyped" "forgotten" "irrelevant" program in lincoln. a second year coach that lost to montana state at home and a first year qb already did in one season what the nebs havnt done since when??? husker fans cant even remember the last time they beat OUtlaw U.......27-24 ANY QUESTIONS?

and by the way....marquis houston wasnt that good.....just a local "feel good" kid that spent more time on his hair then in the weightroom. he is the reason the buffs didnt strongly recruit lindale white......marcus was kinda soft but a good kid....dscott and rpolk gonna punish the big 12--north and south.

I sadly have friends who claim to be Nebraska faithful. They say all the crap about the Nebraska fans being the greatest fans in the universe. But they hated callahan with a passion and i thought a loyal fan would be a fan who gave people a chance. And they once asked my family why we are such crazed cu fans because none of us went to CU. So every person in the nebraska fan base either are going to or went to nebraska. and the thing that just ticks me off is that they seriously beleive that there is no rivalry between Nebraska and Colorado. That is the biggest bull s**t i have ever herd. But tall proves that there is a rivalry. Who would honestly talk crap to fans from another teams fansight if they were not their rivals. i guess i just dont see too many iowa fans talking crap about the buffs anymore. maybe i missed that. So acording to nebraskas wisest; nebraska fans are the greatest people since Jesus Christ, they all go to nebraska or went to nebraska, and they couldnt care less about cu.

Nebraska fans are so full of it lol.. they are pretty funny. NU is such a boring place and just because they clapped for one team at memorial stadium (FSU) they think they are the "greatest fans in college football". Not so fast my friend. They need to pull their heads out of their you know what's and see the light. NU has done nothing in the 2000's and they will continue to suck at life in the very near future and beyond lol.. Go ride a bike NU fans and stop being fat people.
CU-NU is a rivalry too, but NU can't get that through their heads because they are so into themselves. Get over it. Go Buffs!

I am wondering when tallisal is going to finally give up all of the lame aliases (tallisall, Dr. Tom, whosyourdaddy, etc...) and just admit that his real name is Shawn Watson.
GO BUFFS!!!
