McFarland passes 1,600-point mark

Colorado senior Jackie McFarland became the fifth player in CU history to score at least 1,600 career points in Wednesday's 72-68 loss to Texas A&M.;

The forward came into the game with 1,590 points and finished with 24 against the Aggies to climb over the benchmark at 1,614.

McFarland was one of Texas A&M; coach Gary Blair's biggest concerns coming into the game.

"(Oklahoma's) Courtney Paris might be the best post player in our league," Blair said. "But McFarland has the best post moves in the league."

Spears OK

Freshman Brittany Spears looked tired on the court and it showed in the box score as she was held to 11 points, although she had 12 rebounds. She came into the game averaging 14.7 points per game.

Colorado coach Kathy McConnell-Miller said she'd had Spears' blood tested on Tuesday because Spears is anemic and the results were fine.

But Spears has logged a lot of minutes in her freshman season, averaging 31.2 per game coming into Wednesday and she was on the floor for 34 minutes against one of the faster teams in the league.

"The season gets long," McConnell-Miller said. "But I think she's fine."

'Skills' fouls out

Colorado junior Hannah Skildum helped CU get off to a good start in the first half with eight points. She got into foul trouble, however, and eventually fouled out without scoring again.

McConnell-Miller lamented that she would have liked to have Skildum on the floor at the end of the game when CU was getting careless with the ball against A&M;'s pressure.

"I thought she did a good job of handling the pressure and took it to them with her attack," McConnell-Miller said.

Notable

The Buffs came into the game leading the Big 12 in free throw shooting at 74.6 percent, but their shots were off Wednesday. Colorado made 23-of-36 free throws for 63.9 percent shooting. ... The Buffs made 1-of-13 from 3-point range in the first half and only shot three treys in the second half, making two. ... It was Colorado's first loss against a ranked opponent in three games this year.
