Ritzenhein claims U.S. Cross Country crown
Jorge Torres second; Metivier runner-up in women's race
SAN DIEGO -- Former Colorado Buffaloes dominated the U.S. Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Mission Bay Park, with Dathan Ritzenhein and Jorge Torres finishing 1-2 in the men's open race.
Renee Metivier added a second-place finish on the women's side to add to the CU flavor.

Ritzenhein, a national champion for CU in 2003 who will represent the United States in the marathon at the Beijing Olympics, covered the 12-kilometer men's course in 35 minutes, 3 seconds. He beat Torres, a 2002 national champ for the Buffs, by 26 seconds.
Boulder's James Carney took sixth in 35:56, and Torres's brother, Edwardo placed ninth in 36:01.
Another former CU All-American, Clint Wells, was 60th, while Boulder's Fernando Cabada 2as 26th and Carlos Handler was 73rd.
Metivier, a member of CU's 2004 national champion women's team, covered the 8K women's course in 26:36, 1:10 behind race winner Shalane Flanagan.
Former Buff Sara Slattery placed 10th in 27:19, and 43-year-old Boulderite Colleen DeReuck, the 2004 and 2005 U.S. cross country champ, placed 13th in 27:31.
Former Buff Tera Moody was 18th in 28:01.
A pair of current Buffalo runners notched top-10 finishes in the junior races.
Megan Burrell, who redshirted for CU in the fall, placed 10th on the women's side, with a time of 21:58 on the 6K course. She was 1:26 off the winning pace of Jordan Hasay. CU's Allison Sawyer took 31st.
CU's Matt Tebo also took 10th in the 8K junior men's race with a time of 24:58. German Fernandez won in 24:18, while CU's Richard Medina took 40th.
