Zikova earns CU-best 13th victory of career

TAOS, N.M. -- An impressive win streak ended for one member of the Colorado ski team Saturday at the University of New Mexico Invitational while another set a program record for wins.

Senior Maria Grevsgaard's seven-race winning streak ended one shy of the school record when she finished second in the women's 5-kilometer freestyle.

Denver's Annelise Bailly became the first woman other than Grevsgaard to reach the top of the podium, as she won in 15:28.0, just under 10 seconds ahead of Grevsgaard (15:37.7).

Fellow senior Lucie Zikova won her second race this winter, and in the process set a school record for the most career alpine wins by a male or female skier with her 13th. She used the second fastest first run and third quickest second run for a combined time of 1:43.20, good just good enough to beat Denver's Jenny Lathrop.

It was Zikova's 10th career slalom win, tying Grevsgaard for the most victories in one discipline. Grevsgaard has 10 wins in classical competition.

Denver won the overall team title, in large part because of a dominant performance in the men's slalom to overtake CU in the final standings with 591 points. CU was second with 587.5 points.
