After being held to one goal in going winless in the first two games of the season, the Buffs opened Big 12 play with a 3-2 win over Texas Tech.
The win gave CU coach Bill Hempen his 80th career victory with the Buffs.
The game was delayed for about 40 minutes in the first half due to lightning and rain.
The Buffs led 1-0 before the delay on junior forward Nikki Marshall's first goal of the season.
"The game started out pretty chaotic with the weather but we came out strong like always and this time we actually scored," Hempen said.
But Texas Tech responded with two goals before halftime for a 2-1 lead.
The Buffs came right back in the second half.
Colorado freshman Kelly Butler scored her first goal of the season to tie up the game and Kate Russell scored her second goal of the year to put the Buffs (1-1-1 overall, 1-0-0 Big 12) up for good against Texas Tech (1-1-0, 0-1-0).
"It was an intense game on both sides, with both of the coaches and the players," Marshall said. "We had to match that intensity and it made it that much more exciting to come out with the win. Scoring three goals was great, especially after scoring only one goal in two games and we hope this opens the offense up for us."
The Buffs (1-1-1 overall, 1-0-0 in Big 12) return home for a 1 p.m. match against San Francisco on Sunday at Prentup Field.
