Nike tweaks CU's uniform
A year after introducing new uniforms designed by Nike Inc., the Colorado football team is adding another tweak to its jerseys and pants this fall.
Tiny gold raised resin dots in rectangle patterns are visible on the shoulders of the team’s black jerseys and on the upper-inseam of its black pants. The dots are not visible on the white jerseys or the gold pants because they match those colors.
NCAA rules prohibit teams from modifying uniforms in any way to make them more slippery or difficult to grab, but CU director of equipment J.T. Galloway said Nike designed the resin dots to have “deflective properties.”
Nike and CU have been partners since 1995. The world’s largest shoe manufacturer has used CU on multiple occasions as a test school for new products it hopes to introduce to all its clients. It also uses Oregon in the same way.
Galloway said the resin-dotted uniforms are another example of that relationship.
“It took coach Hawkins about point-5 seconds to agree to it,” Galloway said.
Galloway said he kept the new uniforms hidden from players all summer but finally revealed them a week ago on media day. He said players love the subtle change in look. He’s not ready to say the resin dots provide any advantage for the Buffs.
“It just can’t be slick to where a guy can’t grab you,” he said.
Super fan
Paul Foley of Louisville would be a solid beat writer.
The longtime Buffs fan and season-ticket holder since the 1970s has been at all but one practice so far in camp. The only reason he missed a practice is because the schedule was changed that day at the last minute because of weather.
Foley’s dedication to the Buffs is made even more impressive by the fact that he stands through each practice leaning on one crutch. He underwent hip-replacement surgery on July 2 and is nearing the point where he will have his life back to normal.
“The doctor said I needed a lot of standing around therapy, and this is a good place to stand around,” Foley said.
Notable
Freshman offensive lineman Bryce Givens left Saturday evening’s practice with team athletic trainers after suffering what was thought to be a minor injury. ...
Running backs coach Darian Hagan kept star freshman running back Darrell Scott after the evening session for extra running. ...
Cornerback Jimmy Smith is not expected to participate in today’s scrimmage because he continues to nurse a sore back. ...
Coach Dan Hawkins said today’s scrimmage will be similar to the first one of camp last Monday. It will feature about 110 plays and will take place on the practice fields north of Folsom Field (4-6:30 p.m.). It will be the final practice open to the public.

Maybe nike should tweak our tennis courts.
Bwahaha....

resin dots??? deflective properties???? Give me a break. We're talking about football here right? Hmm next thing you know there's going to be an article about a special fabric softener exclusive to the buffs that makes them play better.

Amen to that flabuff. It is a travesty that we use Nike's money to add stars to our uni's when we don't have adequate toilets at our tennis courts.

Of course, that argument is neglecting the fact that without Nike and the profits from the football program, tennis would be an intramural sport ....

Exactly montanabuff, it's an unfair world but since the football program is the ONLY part of the athletic department that makes any money I don't really mind if they have nicer uniforms. Also, consider that Nike gives CU a lot of money and free gear for ALL CU varsity sports. For which sport do they actually see a return on their investment? Football, when they display thier little Nike swooshes 8-10 times a year on national television. No offense, but the tennis team is lucky to have 10 people watch their matches.

Do they make a acl protective knee wrap with these dots? Just kidding!

Flabuff baited you rs and you bit... hahahahaha.
Read the two post under yours and if you still don't understand, well there is no cure for a low IQ or lack of logic.
When CU tennis is on national TV even more then once a year, compared to the 9-10 times a year at $200,000 or so, per showing that CU football is, then you can start crying again.

Wouldn't you think that an article about new uniforms would have a picture or two? I mean, they have been revealed on media day. This is a perfect example of why "news journalism" is an oxymoron. Not that this was news. I detect someone getting paid by the word...

No offense, but if you've been to Folsom Field lately, the football team is lucky to have 10 people watch.

lol i like those all white uniz. those black numbers and letters were sweet. white top and gold bottoms were kool too. there has never been a bad looking buff jersey son... my cliff branch is in blue and gold....that's right my 'young' buff fans we once had that ucla bruin look.....but then we became the 'true' blackshirts', not those 'pinkskirt' chumps in lincoln..62-36 65-51 'ORDER RESTORED'

If your going to talk fashion I like the black pants and black jerseys, especially at night games or later in the season games.
But reality for me is I don't care which of their current color combo they wear as long as they make National TV... and of course wins are a good thing.

Two weeks from now we will be watching the game;)

Rs - Huh? Tickets sales are the highest they've been in years. LOTS of us go to ALL the home games. Folsom was insanely LOUD last year at times affecting Ou, NEB, etc... How are you so off target all the time? Do you serve and volley as poorly as you think and write? Is that why you have so much time on your hands to write suchh poorly formulated dribble? What - you couldn't cut it on the tennis team. Get hit in the head by one too many fuzzy yellow balls that your racket missed?

better not look like those stupid oregon uniforms in any way. those things are embarassing.

Jaws... I second that. RS is out there. So why are they putting dippin' dots on the jersey shoulders? Other coaches are probably trying to figure it out too. Did CU and Nike collaborate on stealth technology or is it just a ruse? Two weeks until tee time guys. I'm looking for some postings from guys who went to the scrimmage this evening. I just flew back in from Vegas and boy my arms are tired. Anyone got insight on the scrimmage? First poll published today. Nebraska got two votes...none for the Buffs. I think college football fans will be in for a surprise out of Boulder this year. Interesting that 5 of the top 14 were from the Big Twelve. Balanced conference. Hate to say it but the Sooners might best represent the conference in the BCS this year. I like our schedule and our chances of winning the North. WVU game is a black out theme. If you go, wear black CU gear.

Dumb - changing the uniform all the time is a waste and they are looking more ridiculous all the time. Id rather they go back a decade or so, larger numbers, cleaner look, simpler is better. Problem with Nike is they want $ and all their employees have no sense of tradition- cfb is about tradition and the unis should have some consistency.
Id really like to see the old all black uni with black helmets\white outline of the buffalo as the decal, make a special 1 game appearance. Havent seen those since maybe the 88 OU game (?). Been so long I cant remember

hmmmmm, I guess I'll take the most technologically advanced uni available.
Slamming the idea because you don't understand the specifics is just plain stupid. Leave it to the Pro's in R&D, not to the joes in section B

As long as we stay away from those Neuheisel era "Vegas Gold" unis, then it's all good.
