Pifer, Barringer win Oregon titles

EUGENE, Ore. -- Colorado's Stephen Pifer and Jenny Barringer both won 1,500-meter titles late Friday at the Oregon Relays.

Pifer ran an NCAA regional qualifying time of 3 minutes, 41.55 seconds, with teammate Brent Vaughn also clocking a regional qualifying time in 3:43.69, good for fifth.

Barringer set a personal record, finishing in 4:17.19, also a regional qualifying time.

Kevin Fasing led the Buffs in the men's javelin throw with a toss of 192-4 to finish sixth.

On Saturday, CU's James Begley had three top-10 finishes in Oregon, nabbing fourth in the shot put (50-63/4), sixth in the discus (165-10) and eighth in the hammer throw (174-7).

Also Saturday, CU's Anna Chase won the 5,000 at the Jack Christiansen Invitational in Fort Collins, finishing in 18:32.59.
