CU-CSU tilt likely Sunday

Colorado and Colorado State officials along with the Denver Metro Sports Commission are considering a deal to move this year's Mile High Showdown football game at Invesco Field to Sunday night, the Camera has learned.

2008 Schedule
  • Aug. 31 - Colorado State at Denver's Invesco Field - 5:30 p.m., FSN
  • Sept. 6 - Eastern Washington - 1:30pm
  • Sept. 18 - West Virginia - 6:30pm
  • Sept. 27 - at Florida State
  • Oct. 4 - Texas (Homecoming)
  • Oct. 11 - at Kansas
  • Oct. 18 - Kansas State
  • Oct. 25 - at Missouri
  • Nov. 1 - at Texas A&M
  • Nov. 8 - Iowa State
  • Nov. 15 - Oklahoma State
  • Nov. 28 - at Nebraska

CU boosters and alumni were told of the possible move at the annual spring game on Saturday at Folsom Field and asked for their opinions of the possible switch.

The move is designed to help relieve stress on Denver police and fire departments which will be already facing a hectic week with the Democratic National Convention in town. The DNC is scheduled to end on Thursday, Aug. 28.

The Buffs are scheduled to take on the Rams on Saturday, Aug. 30 in the annual in-state grudge match, but the game is now likely to take place late Sunday afternoon or early evening in primetime.

The deal is still a work in progress requiring the approval of multiple organizations, but if it is completed, it would be one of two prominent college games that day and would not compete with any NFL games.

Kentucky and Louisville also are scheduled to play that day in an early afternoon tilt.

CU and CSU have played in Denver eight times with both teams winning four games. The Rams are the home team this year and control the television rights.

Maybe this move will get ESPN to televise it so the rest of us can watch it.

Dumb move! You notice what the cops and firefighters do during the game? Watch. That's about it.

This is off topic, but thought most would miss this info on SI.com about WVU's new offense and QB Pat White...looks like their spring game drew about the same number of folks as CU...

Take the game off the schedule. We gain nothing by playing the Community College of Fort Collins.

Moving the game to Sunday would be retarded. Saturday is for College Football. Who cares about the stupid DNC.

I vote for Saturday in Boulder! Then there'd be no imposition on the Denver police!

Sardine - you're exactly right- and nobody would get shot for carrying around 'Coke' cans - Welcome to the Denver PD where they 'shoot to kill' without cause, and in Boulder they (Mary Keenan Lacy) will fly you, first-class, from around the world if you're a mediocre liar... Keep on arresting football players and letting little girls get raped and killed MKL - you're doin' a GREAT job... LOL. RIP JonBenet, the world still grieves for you, sorry that the people who should have 'caught' your killers were too busy looking in to 'fake rape' issues that never existed.
