Scott plans to attend spring game
The Colorado football team is still more than 24 hours from conducting its spring game in Folsom Field, but it's already a pretty safe bet who the most requested player will be for media interviews afterward.

Running back Darrell Scott is scheduled to arrive in Boulder tonight and get a first-hand look Saturday at the offense in which he is expected to star beginning next season as a true freshman.
Scott was the nation's No. 1 running back recruit and one of the top-10 players in the nation last season as a senior at St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura, Calif. He chose to attend CU, where his uncle, Josh Smith, is a freshman wide receiver, instead of going to Texas, which made a late push for his services.
"That's all he's been talking about," running backs coach Darian Hagan said. "He wants to come to the spring game and see the guys work and see if he can get coached up while he's here."
Hagan said Scott and fellow running back recruits Ray Polk (Phoenix) and Rodney Stewart (Columbus, Ohio) have already been accepted to CU, eliminating any fear among fans that all the hoopla about the elite young running backs will be wasted by them not meeting the school's high academic standards.
Scott is the most high-profile recruit to come to Boulder since former Thomas Jefferson High School standout Marcus Houston became a Buff in 2000. Houston was also rated the No. 1 running back recruit nationally.
Other members of the recruiting class will join Scott at the game along with at least 75 former players, including Eric Bieniemy, the program's all-time leading rusher and a current assistant coach for the Minnesota Vikings,
Naming a starter
CU coach Dan Hawkins isn't a fan of the idea of naming a starter at any position at the end of spring practices. He prefers to wait until the first few weeks of training camp are complete.
However, Hawkins said it is possible the program could name a starting quarterback for the 2008 season following the spring game.
"There's always a chance," Hawkins said. "We haven't really talked about that much. I'm not saying we would or wouldn't. We'll see how it goes."
Southern Cal coach Pete Carroll, one of Hawkins good friends in the profession, doesn't mind naming starters this early in the year. In fact, he has done so each year he has been at USC.
Carroll named Marc Sanchez the 2008 starter earlier this week. Sanchez is close friends with CU wide receiver Scotty McKnight, who said his friend is thrilled his patience and hard work have finally paid off.
Hawk on 4/20
Hawkins was asked after Thursday's practice how he felt about thousands of people coming to campus Sunday to smoke marijuana as part of what has become an annual tradition for pro-pot activists and students.
"I'm a little down on that. I'm a lot down on that," Hawkins said. "Unequivocally down on that, in a big way."
Last year during the 4/20 gathering near Norlin Library, approximately 3,500 people participated in the event as CU police stood and watched people toke up, issuing only a few tickets.
Notable
CU expects seven players to miss the spring game because of injuries. They are defensive tackle Brandon Nicolas, defensive end Drew Hudgins, safeties Ryan Walters, Joel Adams and Bret Smith, cornerback Ben Burney and running back Brian Lockridge. ... Wide receiver Kendrick Celestine was held out of practice again Thursday to focus on his studies. ... Former CU coach Bill McCartney and quarterback Kordell Stewart will represent the school April 29 in Greensboro, Ga., at the Chick-fil-A Bowl Alma Mater charity golf tournament. The winning two-some will earn $100,000 in scholarship money for their school.

Dave Plati later released a statement explaining that Coach Hawkins occassionally struggles with his choice of prepositions and actually meant to say that he was:
"Unequivocally down WITH that, in a big way..."
Okay, I made that up.

Big weekend for highly touted rbs: Bieniemy and Scott at the spring game; Wonder if Ricky Williams will show for 4/20?

Tallisall- what reports are you reading?!?!?!?! Cody has looked better in both scrimages. I don't think I would trust husker.com when it comes to the CU qb situation

If we tell the pot smokers to come a day early since there will be weed grown on the field at the spring game, we could easily meet Coach Mac's challenge for 50,000 in the house.

Tall - you're wrong as always - jackass. Read the stor(y)ies again, it said that nelson has been playing well in many elements, but not all. No doubt he's been improving, but Cody still has a better overall grasp onthe offense and we (well all of us exept you Mr. Barnett) know he's a great leader. If you've got time to leave your house in Scottsdale (Just tell Coach Osborne and Phillips that you'll continue your tryst AS SOON as you return) - come to the game tomorrow, show us your face, let us know who you are - still would love to buy you a beer.

Nice, Let's fill Folsom. Go Buffs.

How fantastic. Another post from tallissmall about his obsession with length...oops, I meant height. Sorry. Anyway, congrats to tallissmall for measuring CU's quarterbacks with such exacting dilligence. How you got a yardstick into the Dal Ward locker room is a mystery, however. But, hey, tahnks tall. Keep it up.

I thought Tall was riding Ballenger's horse?
dang, I'm sorry.....I keep forgetting its
anyone but Cody
I'll bet you keep all those little old ladies at the Scottsdale bridge club amused

Talli - please humor all of us just this once and list (other than height) what it is you don't like about Cody being the starting QB. Seriously, be rational about your statements just this once and please explain why you think everyone else is so much better. I admit, I was hoping Ballenger would step up this Spring, but he hasn't separated himself at all. Potential means nothing if you don't live up to it. Nelsen is basically the same as Cody, but doesn't have the experience or the same intangibles. So what is your obsession with ABC (Anything But Cody) based on?
Posted by NorCalLovesDaBuffs on April 18, 2008 at 10:55 a.m. (Suggest removal)
Yea there really is no QB controversy, sorry Tall. Cody is going to keep taking the Buffs to a better bowl game each season, esp if Bohn would take a break on the tough scheduling.
Posted by NJBuff on April 18, 2008 at 11:17 a.m. (Suggest removal)
Cody's going to be the QB. He had a good freshman year. Give him a chance to improve during his second season.
Down the road there's a chance that someone else might step in, but Cody's the starter in 2008.

Tall is in the shower, thinking really hard about which Buff QB has the biggest potential. He'll be back in a couple of hours.
Posted by nwbuff32 on April 18, 2008 at 12:05 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Cody was tied with Colt McCoy in TD passes and had less INT's. He threw for more yds than Bradford. All of this is based on Big 12 play. #8 ranked QB in the Big 12 as a freshman is very good, and he will be even better in 2008.

I propose a moratorium on responding to tallisall. Can I get a second?
A bowl appearance after going 2-10 under B Jack. Beating Oklahoma. Beating CSU and Nebraska. That's a pretty good freshman year, in my opinion.
Posted by zwilson56 on April 18, 2008 at 1:09 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Your lines are tired. We all know you think Cody can't play. Sam Bradford was throwing to whom? Malcolm Kelly, JoeJon Finley and Joaquin Iglesias? Handing the ball to Allen Patrick, was he?
Who did Cody have? Hugh and a bunch of freshman? Oh, that's right.
I think I have a grip. Thanks.
Posted by zwilson56 on April 18, 2008 at 1:33 p.m. (Suggest removal)
No. If we had Sam Bradford we would have won the NC last year, right?
I don't see how anything was anyone's "fault." Our offense got better last year than it was the year before. We went from 2-10 to 6-7. The Buffs are on the right track. At least everyone but you seems to think so.

CAbuff Asked, I answered...
Posted by tallisall
I have asked a thousand times
what is your true motivation?
why wont you answer?
Your tunnel vision and obsession with Hawk and Cody makes just "being a concerned Buff fan" not cutting it.
and I'll save you a short breath....yes, I am a homer....what exactly are you?
Posted by zwilson56 on April 18, 2008 at 1:43 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Do you seriously deny that Bradford had better skill players around him last year than Cody?
Posted by extrapoint on April 18, 2008 at 1:53 p.m. (Suggest removal)
and conversly there are plenty of guys with an NFL arm that cant play QB.
I see know with all the stats at tall's disposal, he is ttotally consumed with them. It is obvious he never played the game.
Posted by bufalooooo on April 18, 2008 at 1:54 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Yeah well just because you have a "NFL" type arm DOESN'T make you a good COLLEGE QB...last time I checked there are maybe 10 guys playing college football right now that have the arm, the brains, and the leadership abilities needed. Cody is a good leader with an average arm and a great football mind. There are always people who perform well in "practice", but it's about the games. Until Ballenger or Nelson proves to the experts(Offensive coaches) he has the whole package not just a cannon arm then it's Cody's job to lose. I think I speak for most of us here when I say we want the player at every position that gives the Buffs the best chance to win...not the best NFL prospects based on size, height, and strength. Go pick some corn Tall!!!
Posted by zwilson56 on April 18, 2008 at 2:08 p.m. (Suggest removal)
You didn't answer my question, but that's fine, I'll answer your's. Yes, I think Bradford has more skill than Cody. But I don't worry about that because Bradford isn't on our team.
I hope Ballenger or Nelson are better than Cody. I hope Ballenger is the next Troy Aikman, or whomever he is supposed to be. But I don't think Cody was handed the job and if he isn't better than one of the other two, I have full confidence that Hawk would pull him.
One more thing: we also won 3 very close games (CSU, Oklahoma (with Bradford at qb), and Texas Tech), with a lesser QB we might have been 3-10.

Not sure what you guys are argueing about????
Posted by tallisall
aint he cute?
you cant make a reasonable argument with someone possessed, zwilson. He will keep it up until Cody fails miserably and his life will be complete, or Cody wildly succeeds in which case he will hopefully go "bowhunting" forever.
Posted by shoulder2shoulder on April 18, 2008 at 2:18 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Bradford was amazing. Here are his stats against an "average CU team"
Comp Att Yds Pct Y/A Sack YdsL TD Int
8 19 112 42.1 5.9 1 8 1 2
And the most important stat...his team LOST!!!!!!

Like I said before, who's with me on the moratorium?

"you cant make a reasonable argument with someone possessed."
Ain't that the truth? It's called the rswright theorem, and it's named after our resident logical retard.

Oh, and at least to me, Tall, stats mean squat save one: that of wins and losses. Bradford, Ganz, Harrell can throw for as many yards as they want. I'll take the wins.

Hmmm...Talli:
Guys with "NFL Arms", no longer employed by the NFL:
Ryan Leaf
Akili Smith
Guys with average arms playing in the pros:
Tom Brady
Drew Brees
Phillip Rivers
etc...
You don't HAVE to be a Brett Favre or John Elway to excel at QB - Just ask Troy Aikman.

Sam Bradford has an NFL arm and is very good.
Not sure what you guys are argueing about????
Why do you keep defending Sam Bradford he's not on the CU football team so what does it matter if he is better than cody or not.
Tallisall why don't you stop hating on the buffs and become a true fan like the rest of us here. or better yet just go back to Oklahoma I'm sure you'll fit in great over there.

TallisSMall going to the "archery shop?" Hilarious. I'm guessing that the "Archery Shop" is a drinking establishment with no windows and very low lighting. And, when he's having a Cosmo, he'll be dreaming tonight of big, tall quarterbacks, and their big NFL arms, their "throwing motion," and how much potential they have. And of course, what a ball he had playing a "team game" in high school. Hey Tall, good luck playing a team game tonight at the "Archery Shop." I'm sure the Oklahoma jersey and the red hot pants will be a big hit.
