Buff men win Ohio State tourney
It's CU's second tournament victory of season
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Maybe the snow flurries at the outset made it feel like home here Sunday for the Colorado men's golf team.

Whatever it was, the result was the Buffs' second tournament win in a month as they rallied to capture the Ohio State-Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
Colorado's final round 294 was the best of the 54-hole tournament and propelled the Buffs to the victory with an overall team score of 900. That bested No. 31 Michigan State, the second-round leader, by three shots, as the Spartans shot a 298 Sunday for a 903 total. No. 36 Kent State finished third (908), with host and No. 63 Ohio State (909) and No. 60 Northwestern (912) rounding out the top five.
The Buffaloes cruised to a 13-stroke win in last month's Louisiana Classics, and coupled with Sunday's triumph, it marks just the second time the program has won two major tournaments in the same year. The other occasion was in 1991-92, when CU won the Air Force Falcon and Stanford invitationals.
Colorado trailed Michigan State by one stroke entering the final round, but tied things up after just one hole. The lead changed hands a few times over the next eight holes, and CU took over the lead early into the back nine. The Buffs led by as many as seven with six holes left to play and then held off a late charge by the Spartans.
Light snow flurries were present at the start of the shotgun round, but those gave way to light rain and cloudy skies. However, the temperature never rose above 42 degrees, accompanied by 8-10 mph winds.
"I thought we were kind of tired coming into the tournament, so all we really did to prepare for here was to get some sleep, tweak a few things in practice and try to come out refreshed," head coach Roy Edwards said.
Sophomore Luke Symons tied for second to pace the CU attack. It was Symons' best collegiate finish and the best finish by a Buff golfer since Edward McGlasson claimed medalist honors in the Tunica National Intercollegiate the first week of November 2005.
Symons carded a final round 72 for a 222 total (9-over par) and his fourth straight top 20 finish.
CU's weekend performance could have some extra benefits, as the same 7,455-yard, par-71 Ohio State University Scarlet Course will host next month's NCAA Central Regional.
The Buffaloes were the only team to have four players in the top 25 and all five in the top 35.
Senior Michael Baird tied for 10th, bouncing back from triple bogey on his second hole of the day to play even the remainder of the way in shooting a 74. That gave him a 12-over total of 225 for the tournament and his team-best seventh top 20 finish for on the season.
