Former University of Colorado football player Tennyson McCarty's death was a ruled a suicide today by the Boulder County Coroner's Office.

"The cause of death is environmental exposure (cold) with a contributing condition of multiple blunt force injuries," Coroner Tom Faure wrote in a new release.

Contacted this afternoon, Faure said he came to the conclusion that McCarty committed suicide "from reviewing all of the circumstances surrounding his death. We reviewed all of the facts, all of the evidence."

Faure said state law prohibits him from discussing the details that led to his conclusion.

McCarty's body was found Oct. 19 in a creek near his car, which was parked along the Peak to Peak Highway northeast of Peaceful Valley. McCarty's Web site indicated he died Oct. 16.

McCarty, 32, lettered as a tight end for Bill McCartney's and Rick Neuheisel's Buffs from 1994 to 1997 and played on Boulder High's 1992 state championship team. After college, he helped form a traveling magic and Christian ministry act.

Tennyson was a great God-loving man, one who will always live on in my memory. He came over to our house several times for BBQ, and he always charmed everyone that was here. My husband asked if Tennyson would like to take a book from our collection, and Tennyson chose Pilgrims Progress. He is missed by many.
