Colorado lost its conference opener at Texas Tech on Sept. 12 and then went on to lose 13 more Big 12 matches before Saturday's victory.
"I think we've always had this in us," head coach Pi'i Aiu said. "We've played well at times and today was the first time that we played steady throughout the whole match."
Emilee Sisco led the Buffs with a career-high 27 kills. Kaitlyn Burkett added a career-best 64 assists for CU.
Texas Tech won the first game, a see-saw battle that included five lead changes and 12 ties.
Then CU took control. The Buffs opened the second game with a 6-0 run and never looked back. CU also got off to a quick start in the third game by going up 20-10.
In the fourth game, up 13-11, the Buffs put together a 6-1 to pull away for the win.
The Buffs are 6-17 overall and 1-14 in the Big 12. Texas Tech is also 1-14 in the Big 12, it's lone win the conference opener against CU, and 7-17 overall.
Colorado will try for conference win No. 2 on Wednesday, but it won't be easy. The Buffs travel to Lincoln, Neb., to face the second-ranked Cornhuskers (20-1, 12-1). The match begins at 6 p.m. and will be televised on CSTV.
