STANFORD, Calif. — After starting the season 1-3, the University of Colorado lacrosse team knew it needed to get a win on Friday night against Stanford. And win the Buffs did, downing the No. 15 Stanford Cardinal, 20-13, at Cagan Field.

The win was also special as the program was playing in its 100th game. Since the program started in 2014, CU has recorded a 67-33 record, all under head coach Ann Elliott Whidden.

The Buffs improved to 2-3 overall, while the Cardinal is now 4-2. It was the Pac-12 Conference opener for both teams.

"Going into this game, we knew we were in a bit of a hole based on last couple weeks," Whidden said. "Conference play is so important and Stanford is a great team, coming off a great weekend on east coast. I am proud of our energy and effort tonight. We had struggled offensively with our execution the last couple of games and our attackers have been focusing in on that the last two weeks. It paid off tonight. For us to be successful we need to execute on both ends of the field. We did a pretty good job of that tonight."

Although it was truly a team effort, offensively the Buffs were led by a pair of Buffs: seniors Samantha Nemirov and Miranda Stinson. Nemirov recorded eight points in the game, tying a school record with seven goals. Stinson added five points with four goals and one assist. Junior Julia Lisella played well in net with a season-high 14 saves.
