With the regular season just around the corner, the Colorado women's lacrosse will begin the year listed among the nation's best.
On Monday, the Buffaloes came in at No. 17 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association preseason poll. It is the second consecutive year the CU program, set to begin its sixth season, has landed in the IWLCA preseason poll.
CU finished 14-6 last year, winning the Pac-12 Conference regular season title with a 9-1 league mark before losing to Stanford in the conference championship game. The Buffs earned their first NCAA Tournament win with a first-round victory at Jacksonville before losing at Florida in the second round.
Stanford is No. 18 in the preseason poll, and USC was the final league representative at No. 21. In addition to facing each Pac-12 opponent twice, the Buffs will play three other ranked foes during their nonconference slate, including a rematch against No. 6 Florida in the season opener at home on Feb. 9. CU plays at No. 14 Virginia Tech on Feb. 16 and hosts No. 5 Stony Brook on Feb. 22. For the first time in the program's existence the Buffs are not scheduled to play the University of Denver, which earned the No. 19 spot in the preseason poll.
On Friday, CU visits No. 7 Northwestern, the alma mater of head coach Ann Elliott, for an exhibition match.
