AIR FORCE ACADEMY -- Colorado sophomore Kevin Kring fired an 8-under par 64 to tie both a school record and course record in the first round of the Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational on Saturday.

At the Eisenhower Golf Club Blue Course, Kring later shot a 2-over 74 in the second round to finish the first day with a 138, which left him tied for third place heading into today`s final round.

"If you`re going to shoot 8-under," Kring said, "it`s a combination of doing a lot of things well, which is what happened in the morning."

As a team, the Buffs were in fourth with a team score of 570, six strokes back of first-place Utah.

Kring`s 64 tied Edward McGlasson`s 63 on a par-71 course in 2005 and his 64 on a par-72 layout a year later.
