FORT COLLINS -- Colorado sophomore Emily Talley recovered from a 3-over par 75 in the first round of the CSU Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic to shoot a 3-under 69 in the second round on Monday.

Her performance was the best by a Buff in the first two rounds and it left her tied for 16th. Her second-round score was the first sub-70 round in her career.

"This morning I definitely had an assortment of scores," Talley said. "On the second 18 I was much more consistent and could feel that I was playing safer shots and I was able to make a few birdies.

"We're always working on trying to finish strong. That's always in the back of my mind when I have four holes left."As a team, Colorado is in 10th place. At 568, Idaho leads CSU by two strokes.

Led by Talley, the Buffs shaved 11 strokes off their score in the second round.

"We had it going this afternoon for awhile, but we didn't finish the greatest," said head coach Anne Kelly. "It's been a slow start for us so far, but we made a lot of birdies today which was a good sign. We just need to pay attention to the little details and lower our mistakes."

The third and final round of the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic will get underway at 8:30 a.m. today.
