Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn said in January he was finalizing future football games in the northeast and the Chicago area in an effort to give alumni in those areas a chance to see the Buffs play in person.

The University of Massachusetts announced over the weekend one of those games is now set. The Buffs will travel to the Boston area to play UMass on Sept. 6, 2014 in Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots. UMass will make two trips to Boulder in 2015 and 2019 to fulfill its obligations in the contract.

"With the move to the Pac-12 Conference and the heavy weight on the western rim, we recognize the opportunity to be able to play in Boston in the home stadium of the New England Patriots and the ability to engage with a large number of Buffs in that part of the country and insure that we continue to engage alums throughout the United States," Bohn said.

UMass is making the jump from the Football Championship Subdivision to the Football Bowl Subdivision in the Mid-American Conference beginning this season. The Minutemen also announced future games against opponents such as Penn State, Notre Dame, Kansas State and Boston College.

The Buffs haven't fared well in their history when playing east of the Mississippi River. CU is 7-22 all-time in games played in the Eastern Time Zone. However, CU won the 1990 national title over Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl in Miami.

Bohn continues to work on a game at a Big Ten Conference school for the 2015 or 2016 season. Bohn has said that game will be within driving distance for CU fans in the Chicago area, making the most likely opponents either Northwestern, Illinois, Purdue or Michigan. CU might not get a return game in that deal because of the collaboration between the Pac-12 and Big Ten Conferences in football that is scheduled to begin in 2017.

Nonconference schedules are now complete through 2014. The Buffs have a home date to fill in the 2015 schedule. CU begins that season with a trip to Hawaii, which will enable it to play a 13th game.
