The Colorado football recruiting class grew to 27 members Sunday night when cornerback Jeffrey Hall made his commitment public and tight end Vincent Hobbs announced his decision following a weekend visit to Boulder.
Hobbs, a 6-foot-3, 235-pound product of Mesquite, Texas, is the seventh recruit from the Lone Star state to pledge to coach Jon Embree's staff in the 2012 cycle, matching the number of Texas recruits in the past three classes combined. It is the largest number of recruits from Texas CU has landed since eight signed with the program in 2003.
Hobbs is the third tight end in the class, helping to add depth in a critical area of need on the Colorado roster. He is rated a three-star recruit by both Scout.com and Rivals.com, which ranked him the 31st best tight end in the class.
Hall, a two-star rated prospect by Scout.com, visited Boulder earlier this month and chose the Buffs over offers from other programs such as Arizona, Indiana, Tulane, North Texas, Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe. He is the fifth cornerback to join the class as coaches try to rebuild a secondary that was ravaged by injuries, suspensions and opposing quarterbacks last fall.
Hall is the first player Louisiana to sign with the program since wide receiver Keenan Canty did so in 2010. He might not be the only player from the state in this class. Jontrey Tillman, an athlete from Baldwin, La., is scheduled to make a post-signing day visit to CU next weekend and could be a late addition to coach Jon Embree's first full-cycle class.
Colorado could add one more prospect to the class to reach the NCAA maximum of 28 signees. Beginning Aug. 1, 2012, no Football Bowl Subdivision program will be allowed to sign more than 25 players in any class.
