Colorado had a flurry of verbal commitments at the end of June, and now July is off to a good start for the Buffaloes.

On Saturday, safety Isaiah Lewis of Granite Bay (Calif.) High School announced that he has given his verbal commitment to join CU's 2017 football recruiting class.

Lewis announced his decision through Twitter: " This has been a long journey of hard work and perseverance and I thank all the coaches who have given me their time and interest. After much thought and consideration, I am humbled to announce my commitment to The University Of Colorado. With gratitude, I want to thank the staff for placing their trust in me as a student athlete and making me fell a part of the Buffalo family!"

Given a two-star rating by, Lewis is 6-feet tall and 195 pounds. He took an unofficial visit to CU last week.

"When we went up there, first of all the academics (stood out)," Lewis said. "They have a very high graduation rate and what really stood out is that the athletes graduate within three-and-a-half or four years. Also, the love and support that the coaches and the staff give to you, you feel at home."

Lewis said it also helps that he has relationships with several current CU players, including cornerbacks Ahkello Witherspoon and Trey Udoffia, tight end Dylan Keeney, linebacker NJ Falo and running back Beau Bisharat.

CU saw Lewis perform at a camp at Contra Costa College and then offered him a scholarship last week during his visit to Boulder.

Lewis also had offers from Wyoming and Kentucky Christian and he was drawing interest from several schools, including Arizona State, California and Washington.

Lewis plans to take an official visit to CU this fall and said he doesn't plan to take official visits anywhere else.

Lewis is the 13th player to commit to the Buffs for 2017, and the ninth to do so since June 14.
