University of Colorado football coach Mike MacIntyre will join coaches from around the state at the ninth annual Colorado Coaches for Charity on Wednesday at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
Head football coaches from other Colorado universities will share the stage with MacIntyre: Mike Bobo (Colorado State), Troy Calhoun (Air Force Academy), Earnest Collins Jr. (Northern Colorado) and John Wristen (CSU-Pueblo). Each will bring their supporters to Denver to help raise money for their respective charities.
Money is also raised during the evening to help sponsor single-parent children attend Fellowship of Christian Athletes summer camps. In addition, Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak will also be appearing as will former Buff and recently retired Bronco, Tyler Polumbus.
Additionally, each coach honors his annual recipient of the Jerry D. McMorris Community MVP Award. MacIntyre's 2016 honoree is Dr. Eric McCarty, the head team physician for both the University of Colorado athletic program. McCarty's Hall of Fame College coach, Bill McCartney, will also be in attendance.
The event is sponsored annually by the Fisher DeBerry Foundation, which is led by Hall of Fame former Air Force Falcons head football coach Fisher DeBerry.
Proceeds raised from the event are split among the coaches' charities. MacIntyre has again chosen the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation (FOJ) as his beneficiary. FOJ pairs up children and their families battling pediatric brain tumors with college sports teams. The Buffs "adopted" Josiah Speer of Longmont in 2013. Josiah has battled brain cancer since he was 3 years old.
