Redshirt freshman defensive end Tim Coleman was removed from the field in an ambulance after Friday morning's practice.

Coleman, who injured his knee two years ago in high school and then injured his Achilles tendon last year with the Buffs, complained to trainers of neck pain and stiffness. Head athletic trainer Miguel Rueda decided not to take any chances and called for an ambulance.

Coleman was asked to stand still until the ambulance arrived and a backboard could be used to stabilize and remove him from the field.

Coach Mike MacIntyre said he was happy Rueda made the decision to call for an ambulance because he would want the same precaution taken with his son.

"The way we think everything will be fine," MacIntyre said.

First day in Folsom

MacIntyre said the Buffs will scrimmage in Folsom Field despite the construction ongoing there on Saturday morning.

"I think it just changes the atmosphere and I like getting in there," he said.

Quick study

Offensive lineman Sully Wiefels only recently joined the program but it didn't take him long to earn a day of practice in one of the gold Uncommon jerseys MacIntyre awards to players who display great effort.

MacIntyre said Wiefels ran 60 yards down field to make a block in a practice earlier in the week.

"It just shows you he knows how to keep playing," MacIntyre said. "It's all about effort."

Defensive backs Kenneth Crawley and Marques Mosley also had Uncommon jerseys on Friday.

Wood says goodbye

Former CU quarterback Connor Wood, the starter at this time last year, watched most of Friday's morning practice with fans and reporters on the opposite side of the ropes from where he is used to. Wood said he is optimistic about the progress he sees and the future of the program.

Wood decided to give up football in January instead of returning for his senior season. He said he finished his final class of college on Friday by taking a quiz. He is moving back home to the Houston area this weekend where he has landed a job in the financial sector.
