Wide receiver Jeff Thomas and offensive lineman Gunner Graham are no longer members of the Colorado football program, coach Mike MacIntyre said Friday.

Thomas, a 6-foot-3 freshman wide receiver last season, is transferring to Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Graham will remain at CU, but has decided to give up the sport.

"College football is a huge commitment all the way around," MacIntyre said. "I don't know, I think sometimes kids don't realize how huge a commitment it is."

Both players were recruited to CU by former coach Jon Embree. Thomas was originally part of the 2012 recruiting class but experienced some off-the-field problems in the summer of 2012 after arriving in Boulder and decided to grayshirt that season, delaying his enrollment until last January.

Graham committed to CU during the 2013 recruiting cycle when Embree was still CU's head coach. When MacIntyre was hired, he honored the scholarship offers to all recruits who had committed to Embree. Both players redshirted last season.

Thomas turned heads when he was healthy and participating in practices, but he was consistently hampered by a bad hamstring in the spring and summer last year, which led to a redshirt year. He will be eligible to play next season without sitting out because Lamar plays at the Football Championship Subdivision level, one step down from the Football Bowl Subdivision.
