Colorado center Gus Handler was named to the Rimington Award watch list for the second straight season this week after an injury plagued 2012 season and a spotty spring.
While Handler is deserving of being included on the season list for the award, which is awarded to the best center in the nation each year, there is no guarantee he will be the Buffs' starter when the season kicks off in September.
CU coaches said both Handler and backup Brad Cotner struggled with shotgun snaps in spring ball and they were looking forward to getting Daniel Munyer back from injury in August camp to see if he can be more consistent with that aspect of the game.
Coaches need consistency in shotgun snaps because the offense uses that formation a majority of the time.
Handler has been the Buffs primary starting center for most of the past two seasons, but he missed half of last season with injuries, including the final four games. Munyer started all four of those games at center.
