University of Colorado junior Emily Hunsucker finished ninth in the hammer throw at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Wednesday.

Hunsucker notched a throw of 204 feet, eight inches -- one inch better than Southern Illinois' Kim Fortney who finished 10th. Arizona State's Chelsea Cassulo won with a throw of 226-9.

On the track, CU senior Aric Van Halen advanced to the finals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase after recording a third-place finish in the second heat with a time of 8 minutes, 44.70 seconds.
