After posting their first win of the season with an impressive showing on the road against a ranked foe, the Colorado women's lacrosse team has swept the weekly Pac-12 Conference awards.
On Monday, senior attacker Miranda Stinson was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week, while Buffaloes sophomore Eliza Cahill was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Stinson, the top returning scorer from last year's Pac-12 regular season champs, was held to just two goals in a season-opening loss against Florida but came alive in a 17-6 win at then-No. 14 Virginia Tech, pacing the Buffs with four goals and two assists. A first team All-Pac-12 selection last year, it the second Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honor of Stinson's career.
Cahill, a sophomore from The Woodlands, Tex., is one of the Buffs' new starters along their defensive front, and she helped hold the nation's No. 14-ranked team to just six goals on its home turf.
The Buffs also swept the Pac-12 weekly honors three times last year.
The victory at Virginia Tech helped the Buffs move up from No. 17 to No. 14 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association top 25 poll. CU returns home to host a pair of top-25 foes this week, with No. 6 Stony Brook visiting on Friday and No. 25 Michigan following on Sunday.
