The annual USA Track and Field Championships will be held this weekend at Drake University, and the field will be permeated with current and former University of Colorado stars.

Representing the current Buffaloes will be Sage Hurta, Dani Jones, and Joe Klecker, while former Buffs Jenny Simpson, Emma Coburn, and Shalaya Kipp highlight the CU alums.

Hurta won the Pac-12 Conference championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase but had a disappointing showing at the NCAA West preliminaries. She will try to bounce back in the steeplechase on Thursday in a race that also includes Coburn, the Olympic bronze medalist in the steeplechase in 2016, and Kipp, an Olympian in 2012.

Jones redshirted during this past track season but posted an impressive win at the 1,500-meter Prefontaine Classic last month, turning in a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 7.33 seconds. Jones also will be competing against a CU Olympic medalist in Simpson, who took bronze in 2016 in the 1,500-meter run. Former Buffs Sara Vaughn and Sara Sutherland also will compete in the semifinals of the 1,500-meter run on Thursday.

Klecker, who also redshirted this spring, is the only men's entrant with CU ties. He will compete in the men's 5K final on Sunday, while the women's side of that event also will feature new CU alum Erin Clark, whose eligibility ended with a ninth-place finish in the 10K and a 13th-place finish in the 5K two weeks ago at the NCAA championships.
