EUGENE, Ore. - Down 7-6 early in the second half, the 15th-ranked Colorado Buffaloes recorded an 8-2 run to defeat Oregon, 14-9, on Friday night at Pape' Field.
Junior Samantha Nemirov was responsible for five of those eight second-half goals, propelling the Buffs to their fourth win in Pac-12 play. The Buffs are now 7-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Ducks dropped to 4-4 overall and are 2-3 in league competition.
"Obviously this was not our prettiest game, but I was proud of our second half effort and the fight we showed," CU head coach Ann Elliott said. "We have to do a better job in the start of the game executing on both ends of the field. I thought that in the second half we did a better job of executing, limiting unforced turnovers and causing some turnovers."
The Buffaloes outshot the Ducks 41-20 and had the edge in draw controls, 15-10. Both teams recorded 11 ground balls and 14 turnovers. Colorado converted on three of its 10 free-position attempts, while Oregon was 1-of-4.
"Overall, every conference game is so important," Elliott said. "This is a very well coached Oregon team, so we are happy to be leaving Eugene with a win. And we will look to get refocused and start preparing for Denver before we head into second half of Pac-12 play."
