Due to circumstances beyond its control, the Colorado men's basketball team missed out on a trip this season to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Instead it seems the college hoops fun in the sun will occur next winter.

Organizers for the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic announced coach Tad Boyle's Buffaloes will be in the tournament's eight-team field in 2018. The Diamond Head Classic will be held Dec. 22, 23, and 25 at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

Also in the field will be Hawaii, Charlotte, Indiana State, Rhode Island, St. Mary's, TCU, and UNLV.

Last month CU won the Paradise Jam, which was moved to Liberty University after the U.S. Virgin Islands suffered extensive damage from this past fall's hurricanes.

The Buffs also played in the Diamond Head Classic in 2014, winning the opening game against DePaul before suffering consecutive losses against George Washington and Hawaii.

In the semifinals of this year's Diamond Head Classic on Saturday, USC outlasted Middle Tennessee State 89-84 while New Mexico State upset No. 6 Miami 62-54. The Trojans and NMSU will meet for the title on Christmas night.
