Marty Puketapu isn't going to have to travel far to enjoy a momentous honor with her native New Zealand.

The freshman from the Colorado women's soccer team has been named to her country's national team, and she will be on the roster when New Zealand takes on the United States in a friendly at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Friday. The two sides also will square off in Cincinnati on Tuesday.

Depending how much playing time Puketapu receives, her availability may be limited for the Buffaloes match at the University of Denver Saturday night.

Puketapu, who shares the CU team lead with four goals, received her first national team experience earlier this year, appearing in three matches off the bench for New Zealand in the Cyprus Cup. At lower levels, Puketapu compiled 26 goals in international play for New Zealand on the country's U-17 through U-20 teams. Friday's New Zealand-U.S. showdown begins at 8 p.m. and will air live on ESPN2.

The New Zealand team is training at CU this week in preparation of Friday's friendly.
