The almost unprecedented freshman season turned in by Taylor Kornieck a year ago continues to draw raves.
On Monday, the Colorado soccer star was named to the second team of Top Drawer Soccer's 2017 preseason All-America list. Last week Kornieck also was named to the preseason watch list for the Hermann Trophy, awarded annually to the top Division I player in the nation.
The sophomore midfielder is just the second CU player to land preseason All-America honors, following Nikki Marshall in 2009.
Last year, Kornieck was named the Pac-12 Conference Freshman of the Year after posting 11 goals and four assists while leading the Buffaloes to their third NCAA Tournament appearance in four seasons. Kornieck's goal total (along with the 11 scored by since-graduated teammate Danica Evans) was the third-best single-season total in the program's history, and Kornieck's 26 points was the second-best mark ever by a CU freshman, trailing only the 37 recorded by Marshall in 2006.
Also a first-team All-Pac-12 selection last year, Kornieck spent time with the U.S. U-19 and U-20 national teams this summer, playing in six games and scoring her first international goal in July against England.
The Buffs open the regular season Friday at Colorado State at 5 p.m., with their home opener set for Sunday against Colorado College at 3:30 p.m.
