Beyond his old friends on the coaching staff, there will not be an overabundance of familiar faces under Coloardo basketball coach Tad Boyle's direction with the U.S. men's U19 World Cup team.
On Thursday, USA Basketball announced the 28-player roster for the team's training camp, which will be held June 18-25 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Boyle will serve as an assistant on the staff under Kentucky coach John Calipari, who was an assistant at Kansas when Boyle played there in the mid-1980s. Wake Forest coach Danny Manning, a former KU teammate of Boyle's, also will serve as an assistant coach.
The player pool includes four Buffaloes opponents from this past year's Pac-12 Conference schedule — USC guard De'Anthony Melton, Washington State guard Malachi Flynn, Oregon guard Payton Pritchard, and Kansas guard Charile Moore, who played his freshman season this past year at Cal before transferring.
Incoming UCLA freshman Kris Wilkes also was invited to the camp.
The U.S. will seek a third consecutive gold medal at the World Cup, which will be held July 1-9 in Cairo, Egypt.
