The Colorado women's basketball team is losing a key assistant coach, as Jeff Cammon has left the program to become the head coach at Long Beach State.

Cammon was hired about a year ago by CU head coach JR Payne, and although Cammon spent just one season in Boulder, he left a big impression.

"Long Beach has just hired one of the finest men I know," Payne said. "I am thankful for all that he brought to CU in his time here and excited for all that he will do at Long Beach."

This will be the first college head coaching job for Cammon, who previously spent five seasons (2009-14) as an assistant at LBSU. He was an assistant at California for two years before coming to CU.

Cammon replaces Jody Wynn, who was hired by Washington last month. Cammon worked on Wynn's staff during his previous stint at LBSU.

"It's a dream come true to be able to come back to the Beach family," Cammon said in a press release from LBSU. "I feel like I never left because my heart was still there in Long Beach. I'm both humbled and excited to come back and be able to build on the successful tradition and culture established by Jody Wynn, Derek and the rest of her staff."

Payne is currently in the early stages of hiring a replacement for Cammon. The Buffs are also close to hiring a new strength and conditioning coach for women's basketball.
