Tad Boyle of course didn't have a personal interest at stake in the draw for this year's NCAA Tournament. However, the leader of the Colorado Buffaloes still had a few reactions to Sunday's announcement of the 68-team field.

Chief among those thoughts was Wichita State being relegated to a No. 10 seed despite 30 wins and an RPI ranking of 31. Boyle, who spent six seasons as an assistant at Wichita State in the early 2000s, is among those who believe the Shockers should have been given a more favorable slot despite posting just one win all season against a team that reached the NCAA tourney field (and that was South Dakota State).

Boyle also thought Illinois State, which received a No. 1 seed in the NIT and sits as a potential second-round foe for the Buffs, should have been invited to the Big Dance.

"Boy, Wichita State a 10 seed? Holy cow," Boyle said. "Illinois State...I know everybody is talking about Syracuse not getting in, but Illinois State has a 33 RPI. I was at Wichita State and I know how hard it is to schedule. They say they didn't play anybody. Well guess what? They can't get any games. It's a catch-22 for teams like that.

"Every year there's a handful of teams you feel bad about. But again, that's why the NIT is there. It's a good tournament."
