The Belgian U20 national basketball team finally broke into the win column at the European Championships. And Colorado guard Thomas Akyazili was a big reason why.

Akyazili scored 17 points as the Belgians posted an 85-83 win against the Czech Republic. The CU sophomore was a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line, knocking down a pair with 23 seconds that gave his team an 83-80 advantage. Akyazili scored six points in the final quarter and also contributed four rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

Akyazili's point total equalled what he accumulated through the tournament's first two games in Belgium's losses against Sweden and Italy. Through three games he is averaging 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and two assists. He also ranks second in the entire tournament with 2.7 steals per game.

Akyazili and the Belguim U20 national team continues play in the Euro Championships against Ukraine on Wednesday at 11:45 MDT.
