Alexis Austin's 13 kills weren't enough for the Buffaloes on Wednesday, as Colorado lost a closely contested match 25-23, 26-24, 25-17 to No. 9 UCLA.
Joslyn Hayes had a solid match, recording nine kills and just one error to hit .364 (22 attacks) for the Buffs. Gabby Simpson had eight kills in the match, and Anna Pfefferle added seven kills, also for CU.
Freshman Naghede Abu hit .500 to lead the Buffs. She recorded five kills on 10 errorless attacks. Pfefferle also did not have an error in the match and hit .318 with 22 swings.
As a team, the Buffs hit .297, with Nicole Edelman handing out 33 assists. Colorado tallied 44 kills and nine errors on 118 attacks.
The Bruins hit .313 with 51 kills and 15 errors on115 attacks. Jessyka Ngauamo led UCLA with 19 kills and hit .317, while Jordan Anderson was also in double-digits with 10 kills.
The Buffs picked up 40 digs. Austin and Edelman each had nine and Gabby Simpson recorded eight digs. Colorado out-blocked UCLA 5-3. Abu, Hayes and Pfefferle each posted two blocks in the match.
