College football analyst Phil Steele released his preseason all-Mountain West teams Tuesday, with 12 Colorado State players selected to the four squads.
Three of those players were first-team picks by Steele: tight end Kivon Cartwright, linebacker Cory James and kicker Jared Roberts.
Offensive tackle Ty Sambrailo, linebacker Max Morgan and safety Trent Matthews were on the second team; wideout Rashard Higgins and punt returner Joe Hansley were on the third team; and quarterback Garrett Grayson, defensive tackle Terry Jackson, linebacker Aaron Davis and cornerback Bernard Blake were named to the fourth team.
The dozen selections for the Rams were the second most of any team by Steele, trailing only Mountain Division foe Boise State (16). Utah State, Fresno State and Wyoming each had 10 picks.
At the end of last season, Roberts was a first-team pick as voted on by coaches and league media, Sambrailo was named to the second team and Cartwright and Morgan earned honorable mention.
The Rams begin preparations for the 2014 season with the first practice on Aug. 4., 26 days before the season opener with Colorado at Sports Authority Field on Aug. 29.
