The pre-game ceremony honoring seniors in the Colorado football program will be a little larger than expected Friday when the Buffs conclude the season by hosting Utah at Folsom Field.
Coach Jon Embree announced Monday three fourth-year juniors are concluding their careers this week and will take part in the pregame senior introductions with their eight senior teammates. This season's senior class is the second smallest at CU in the modern history of the program.
Place-kicker Zach Grossnickle, tight end DaVaughn Thornton -- both of whom attended Denver East High School -- and wide receiver Jarrod Darden are parting ways with the program despite having one season of eligibility remaining.
Embree said he informed the three players back in the summer this season would be their last in Boulder.
Embree said all three players are on track to earn their degrees either next month or in the spring and all would be eligible to transfer to other programs and play as seniors next season.
"They will join the other seniors on senior day and their last opportunity to play up there in Folsom" Embree said. "It will be family and all that here and send them off the right way."
