Colorado football coach Jon Embree said sophomore quarterback Nick Hirschman has been cleared to resume playing after missing last week's game with a concussion. Hirschman will start against Utah and fellow sophomore Connor Wood will serve as his backup.
Hirschman made his first start of the season two weeks ago at Arizona and played well before being injured.
"We'll see if he can pick up where he left off," Embree said.
Wood made his first career start last week in a loss to Washington at home, but he threw two first half interceptions and was replaced in the lineup by junior Jordan Webb.
Embree said Webb's season came to an end against the Huskies. He had been dealing with an injured throwing hand and tried to play through pain. Embree said Webb will undergo surgery on his hand and thumb and is expected to remain in the program next season when he will be a senior.
Webb started nine of the Buffs games this fall.
