Colorado running back Rodney Stewart has an outside chance at breaking the school's career rushing record and will be one of the most experienced ball carriers in the nation this season.

Those facts helped land Stewart on the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award, given annually to the nation's best college football player.

Stewart joined 67 other players from around the nation on the list, including 10 others from Pac-12 schools. The committee of sports information directors, coaches and media members who select the award winner at the end of the season can also add players to the list during the season.

Most of the watch lists for the major college football awards will be announced over the next two weeks. Stewart could be on several of those lists in addition to the Maxwell Award.

Stewart ran for 1,318 yards as a junior, the third-highest total in the Big 12 Conference. He finished the year with more than 1,600 yards of total offense. An encore performance in 2012 would vault him past Buffs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy into the top spot on CU's career rushing list.
