Former University of Colorado star Dathan Ritzenhein was named USA Track & Field`s Athlete of the Week on Wednesday. Ritzenhein won the bronze medal Sunday at the 18th IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, in Birmingham, UK.

Ritzenhein clocked 1 hour flat to finish in third place. It is the second-fastest U.S. time in history and the first time an American male has medaled at the championships.

Ritzenhein also earned the honor on Sept. 1 when broke Bob Kennedy`s 13-year-old American record in the 5,000 by almost two seconds, crossing the line in 12:56.27.

Higgins elected trustee

USA Cycling announced that its member athletes elected Boulder`s Cari Higgins to the position of Athlete Trustee.

Higgins will serve as one of two athlete representatives on the United States Cycling Federation (USCF) Board of Trustees.

The USCF is an association within USA Cycling and governs all disciplines of cycling.

Cari Higgins is a seven-time U.S. national champion and four-time Pan Am Championship medalist.
