ALBUQUERUE, N.M. — The Colorado men's golf team bounced back from a poor second-round performance to shoot the best team score in the final round and move up into a tie for fifth place Saturday in the 62nd Annual New Mexico William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.

San Diego State led from start to finish in winning the event with an 863 team score, as the Aztecs were the only school under par at 1-under. Colorado State grabbed second with an 873 total, followed by Brigham Young (878), Washington (879) and then the Buffaloes and host New Mexico at 882 (18-over).

The Buffs had shot a 302 in the second round, but bounced back with a 1-over par 289 Saturday morning, the best team score in the final round and the sixth-best single round tally in the tournament.

The Buffs were led by true freshman Morton Toft Hansen, who closed the day about has hot as one could — firing a 31 on his final nine holes (the front) en route to a 3-under 69. That gave him a 54-hole total of 215, or 1-under par, as he was one of just seven players to best par for the tournament on the 7,555-yard, par-72 UNM Championship Course layout. It was also just one of three rounds in the 60s Saturday, as well as his best collegiate round to date in relation to par.

It was the highest individual finish by a Buff in this tournament in eight years, dating back to the 2008 event when Derek Tolan tied for medalist honors. And in the 62 years CU has participated in the Tucker, it is the highest finish ever by a Colorado freshman.
