A lot of casual fans may not recognize the name of Kurt Gulbrand, but his departure this summer leaves big shoes to fill in the Colorado athletic department.

CU's associate athletic director for development, Gulbrand left the Buffs last month for a similar position at the University of Tennessee.

During the past several years, Gulbrand was essentially the right hand man for athletic director Rick George when it came to fundraising. Gulbrand helped CU's Buff Club to unprecedented levels of fundraising success and he was one of the key figures in the Sustainable Excellence Initiative (SEI) and the Drive for $105 Million campaign.

"That's going to be a big loss for us," George said. "He oversaw all of our fund-raising efforts in the Buff Club and did a great job. We have a great team in place and we're in process of searching for his replacement. We'll miss Kurt. He's done an amazing job for us."

George said he hopes to have Gulbrand's replacement hired by the middle of August.
